uneblinstu's postgame chatter: vol 15, ed 2: Omaha

Too eager to hear people's perspective on this game. And recall @uneblinstu doesn't have BTN+ to catch the game.

    I'll kick it off.

    2-0.

Please don't ruin the rest of our chances to hang out with Erick Strickland

The lady who was sitting in front of me at the games asked about him and what his position is with the team since he was sitting at the score table.  All I know is he is on the Ticket.  What's the story so I can let her know next time she comes to a game?

    Likes, in no particular order:

Denim Dawson's defense. Watching him in warm-ups last year I was thinking all this "he dives on the floor for loose balls" was just because they had to try to find something positive to say about someone on the team. This kid has a great motor and great energy. He's a ++ athlete. On the defensive end, he uses that athleticism and motor to make himself really pretty effective even though he's still just learning the college game. He played a big role on the defensive end during our big run in the first half. His offense needs a lot of work, however.

Bandoumel's unselfishness. Oh, man. So many times in these two games I've seen him start to do that shake-n-bake stuff where, if his name was Alonzo Verge or Bryce McGowens or Cam Mack, you're thinking to yourself "oh no, he's going to put his head down and try to take it all the way himself, 1 on 5." But then he stops and passes the ball and it's like "I was NOT expecting that." He gets his points when those points are there to be gotten. He really does a good job of letting the game come to him.

Sam Griesel's command. Favorite player of the Hoiberg era? Yeah, quite possibly. He doesn't have the best handles ever for a PG. He's not the best shooter ever. He isn't going to overwhelm you with athleticism. But he's making good decisions. Like all the time. He plays within himself and seems to know just how to take advantage of what the defense is giving him. Witness those several possessions in a row tonight where he drew fouls driving to the basket. Drive after drive. Eventually, the fouls piled up and they had to let him just go. He positions himself for rebounds. He boxes out. He just doesn't hurt you. Like ever.

100% Norm on Sam.  I was telling my friend at the game exactly what you said.  Sam "gets it" He knows when to push, when not to push, etc.  There were times last night where we would get up 14-16 points, get a defensive rebound and he would simply take his time to bring the ball up, get us into our offense and hopefully get a good look.  Also late in the 1st half when UNO was making a mini run, on like 3 straight possessions Sam just simply went at the defender and drew the foul.  He I believe made 5-6 FT's during this stretch as well.  UNO was playing a lot of defense with their hands and he knew this.  So he "forced" the refs almost to make the call.

I just love how he has a good feel for the game.  Its only 2 games, but I feel much more comfortable with him running the show than I did the previous PG's under Fred.

Sorry, I was joking.  However, he was at the game calling it for BTN+ along with Jessica Coody

Concerns:  Are the nagging injuries already piling up?  Walker is out with some mysterious healthcare issue.  Gary apparently has been dealing with a shoulder issue for a while, who knows how serious or how much it effects his play.  And it seemed like Wilcher was half limping during the parts of the game and Fred seemed to allude to him having soreness or an injury as well.  This team simply does not have the luxury or the depth to have injuries, especially so early in the season.

    C.J. said he was cramping.
