In two games against PSU, Isaiah Roby was 16 of 19 from the field. It seems like maybe NU could have featured him like the last game against that other NU. ((sigh))

It wouldn't have mattered.   Roby would have needed to score 45 for us tonight to have a chance, with how lousy are defense played.

On the season, the team has taken 1,588 field goal attempts, and made 684, for 43.1 percent.

Watson and Palmer have taken 697 of those 1,588 shots. They have made 267 of those 697. That's 38 percent.

The rest of the team has made 417 of 891 shots. That's 47 percent.

Take away Copeland, and the rest of the team is shooting 45 percent.

Copeland was making 52.5 percent of his field goals.

    TO SUMMARIZE

    • Copeland = 52.5 percent shooter.
    • Watson and Palmer = 38 percent.
    • Everybody else = 45 percent.

That's not a completely fair comparison. You also have to factor in the difference in coverage (i.e. double teams, pressure on star players, etc.). But that said, if you're a star player you should be able to find a way to still perform under higher pressure situation compared to the bench players.

It's all gone to hell, but personally attacking our players is a bad look.  But by all means, carry on.

I don’t feel like I’m personally attacking anyone. I didn’t say anything bad about Palmer as a person or question his effort or leadership. That would be personally attacking. I simply said he’s overhyped and been hugely detrimental to this team. I hope I didn’t cross the line into personal attack as that wasn’t my intent. I apologize if I did.

But, really.... Why doesn't Miles feature an efficient scorer who dominated PSU previously?!

The difference between last year and this year is our ability to get to the free throw line.  We led the conference in free throw attempts last year in conference games.  This year we are 6th.

And as the season has worn on, our FT % as a team has tanked.

Besides JPJ, who has been on the FT 211 times, the rest of the entire team has only been there 410 times during the 2018-19 season thus far--including Roby's 102 & Cope's 65. TA/GW only 73 combined attempts... That's not going to cut it.

Roby, Palmer, and Allen combined for 51 points.  That would have been enough to beat NW alone.  This team goes as Watson goes.  A no show tonight, and during our losing streak.   He shot 2 - 4 from 3, I believe, but 0 - 6 from 2.

I wish the staff would run more offense through Allen.  I know his game is not getting to the rim like Palmer's but I wish he was given more looks.

I tend to agree that Glynn's the straw that stirs the drink---and not enough stirring going on (assists/scoring/general-playmaking).

Yet, I just don't understand when JPJ has continued to get 17-20 shots a night. He's been shooting 37% for crying out loud. sheesh--NU is just playing really, really poorly offensively w/o Cope

Tonight's game was a tougher matchup for Roby because instead of Watkins or Harrar guarding him it's Lamar Stevens because we no longer have Copeland.

Also Penn State having been burned by Roby last time didn't deploy the same type of head scratching "don't guard Roby" strategy that Northwestern rolled out.

Is Roby had 10 shot attempts tonight. It really doesn't seem like he's going to shoot a whole lot more than that when guarded tightly even if he's being prodded to shoot more

It certainly wouldn't hurt.... last time NU played Purdue, TA had a good night shooting the ball. Maybe he can do *that* again! GBR !!!

Sure, Northwestern just kind of sucked. PSU played out of their minds.

Taylor got to the line quite a bit last year and GW's FTR is basically cut in half this year....some of that is due to us playing in a lot less close games where people would foul Watson trying to get the ball back.

I forgot to mention, we also didn't put conference teams at the line.  We were 4th in conference games for opponent free throw attempts.   This year, we are 11th.

Tired legs from not having enough bodies that are ready.  No reason for that in year 7.

That's probably even more significant, tbh.

NU has missed ET and Anton Gill in a big, big way. HUGE.

Miles coached teams seem to have one kid that shoots way more than others and yet shoots under 40% but is our leading scorer.
