MVS is BAD!!!!

* Played a very, very, very bad team

* Should have curb stomped them, should have beat them by 40...well we did.

* Shot over 40% from 3.

* Everyone who played (everyone) played well.

* Well, Nana likes to shoot and did well.

* If you were at the arena, you have no affirmation regarding what appeared to be flagrant fouls that must have been called.

* Rotation???

What I liked about tonight, and I mentioned this above, we should have curb stomped this team, and we did.  That has not always been the case in the past.

Delaware State last year was worse...and we only beat them by 17...

That's the kind of thing a top 25 team will do to an inferior opponent.

We scored 106...won by 69 and didn't have a 20 point scorer.

the biggest difference to me this season was the maintenance of the high pace throughout. That's hard to do in a blowout, especially, but these guys were really consistent in how they attacked on offense. I was really impressed with that, because to me, it's indicative of a high level of focus. 

it'll be interesting to see how this plays out against better competition.

When teams have good shooting nights against us, seems like some people always want to blame our defense rather than give the other team credit for just getting hot. Agreed, Norm! Our length is going to give people fits. By the end of the year, Brady's length and bball IQ might even make us forget about #Riskyroadz leaving us high and dry.

True but, Man MVS shot a lot of air balls with no one in their face. Also A DI school doesn't get beat by an NAIA school. SO MVS is BAD>

Okay, if I have to find negatives it is that we turned the ball over 11 times and we only shot a bit above 60% at the line.  Other than that...

When Thorir Thorbjarnarson is blocking your shit inside, it's a sign you should stop going there.

I thought Brady played well enough tonight, that other dude is forgotten already. He might not weigh 270#, but Brady doesn't suck like that other guy.

On the game

“I’ll start with just the team mentality. I thought the guys respected the game and played hard throughout the game. Then, I look a little bit about how the young guys did. I thought that Brady Heiman did a very nice job and Nana Akenten, too. I think people can see what we saw in him (Akenten). He’s never really had a chance to show out (last year) so it was good for him to get some reps up and down the court. You can see why we like him. And then I look at those other guys. Like how is Glynn (Watson Jr.) going to respond to what is going on? I thought Glynn was really good. James Palmer Jr. put up a great line. After that, were we solid defensively? Just checking the boxes. We did a lot of things right tonight. Sometimes after a game like this, you don’t feel good, whatever, but, I thought our guys just hung in there and kept doing the right things for a long time.”

On the shooting

“We are day by day. I like the way we shoot it. I have seen us do it in practice, I know what our numbers are in practice. I think it is going to be one of those things where we are going to have some tough nights, but, we are going to have some good nights. Even Brady (Heiman) put one up late, and I am fine with that even though the end result maybe wasn’t what we hoped but I think he has got to be able to take those because he is going to end up stretch-four stretch-five kind of guy for us.”

James Palmer Jr.:  “At halftime, we preached to just finish the game strong and to not worry about the score.”

On how much fun to get extended minutes and produce

Nana Akenten: “It’s always fun, first off, all glory goes to God, but my teammates just kept encouraging me. My coach as well. I was just out there having a fun time.”

On if the team answered questions regarding its shooting

Glynn Watson Jr.: “Yes, but it’s just the first game. We’re just going to keep working each and every day.”

On what the team needs to work on heading into its next game

James Palmer Jr.: “I mean we just have to work on everything. It was a good win for us and to get our feet wet, but we still need to up our overall game, offense and defense.”

On his performance

Glynn Watson Jr.: “I’m just doing whatever the team needs from me. I’m going to be aggressive, Coach Miles wants me to be aggressive. That’s just one thing I’m going to, be aggressive more and try to get my teammates open and make open shots.”

On playing a team like Nebraska and what his team can learn from a game like this

“What my team has to learn from a game like this is that I’ve been truthful to them. I’ve told them how it is to play in this environment and how it is to play a high level team, but when you got seven new guys and they think ‘well coach may just be trying to scare me’ they actually think that they’re that good. Tonight was a reality check. These guys are really that good. They’re really that tall, they’re really that long, they’re really that athletic and they really shoot it that well. It’s a reality check.”

On what he liked from his team today

“There wasn’t a whole lot that I liked from today. I’m not concerned with what I liked from them today. I’m concerned about when we practice tomorrow. Am I going to like what I see when they get out on the court and practice tomorrow? That’s what I’m concerned about.”

On takeaways from tonight’s game

“We have to learn that we have to be 10 times smarter, play 10 times harder, and make 10 times less mistakes in order for us to compete.”

On what he is most excited about for his team this season

“If we ever get our big guys in and get them eligible, I think we can compete better. When you’re small and you can’t hold down the middle, it makes it very hard.”

Brady was one point away from a double double.

Actually we tied the school record for 3pt attempts (37). We attempted that many in that 2002 game vs #1 Kansas

No complaints. My section was mostly empty, sparse crowd, the frisbee dogs were better than last year’s, and a student actually won the first national dash for cash. Oh, and D- Wayne is back.  As for the game, we showed up, kicked butt, and on to the next one. 

A quite night by Isaiah.   Some silly fouls diving up to try and block a 3 pointer and an offensive charge trying to maneuver past several on the way to the hoop.   I had hoped he would figure out how to stay out of foul trouble this year and it kind of happened in the first half against a team like this.  Also for the most part he played too unselfishly as usual. I know this is just one game and not a typical opponent so I’m not too worried but.....

Glynn was very good tonight. He showed out. Love that he was aggressive shooting threes, and he hit 5 of 7. He'll be a big factor in reaching NU's mission for this season.

This statement cannot be stressed enough. In years past, we would play down to competition. Let them hang around and then pull away in the 2nd half and win by 25. It’s only one game but I was definitely encouraged by the beat down tonight.
