    uneblinstu's postgame chatter: Vol: 10; ed: 11 - @ the CenturyLink Center

Ronnie Harrell inadvertently slapping his own teammate in the face generating while Glynn Watson runs into Isaiah Roby for his 5th foul is your Century Link play of the day.

I'm just mad right now. This game flipped on that bull$#!@ reversal on the charge on Jordy. NU punched for a long time. That was a really good basketball game, NU showed well, but just couldn't quite hang. I'm gonna go punch a wall. I may add some more thoughts later.

I'm not sure why some folks go straight to big picture talk right after this loss.  All this 0-6 against Creighton and sick of moral victories stuff.  We played a quality top 25 team on the road, and were with them to the end.  Tough as hell to win on the road.  I mean, did you honestly think it was probable we would win before the game?  Did you think we think we should  have won before the game started?

I knew we had a shot, because we're a decent team, and I"m in the dumps because we lost, but I can't say I didn't expect this result.

Well - have not read any of this thread but had to post this just to vent.

Was at the game and just got home.  Turned on the DVR to watch three key calls from the first half that I thought were bad calls that really were keys to the momentum we had - the reversal of the call on Jordy, Watson getting leveled on the breakaway and not giving Copeland the bucket on the dunk.   All three calls were even worse seeing them on TV than I realized watching it live - particularly the one on Copeland.   Usually they give you the benefit of the doubt on that - (certainly did once with a CU player in the lane in the 2nd half) - but Copeland clearly was starting to go up before the guy made any contact.  If they get even just 2 of those 3 calls right we are up by over 10 at half.

Done venting now - but kind of afraid to even go forward and watch Glynn's 5th foul :).

Holy crap. We shot 3 free throws. Guess I wasn't paying attention to that number during the game. I need more beer after seeing that.

Not happy right now, but when you think about how this team looked in game 3 in Queens versus how they looked today in Game 11, we're getting better as these guys gain more time on the floor together. Still a lot more improvement is needed, but after how we competed Tuesday and today, I think we're on the right trajectory heading into full-time conference play.

Now back to drinking heavily. 3 free throws for a team that had 26 paint points and attempted almost 2/3 of its shots from inside the arc. Wow.

Oh and loved how Cope played today - he did take a lot of shots, but we needed him to.

We're asking him to guard guys bigger than him much of the time, be one of our top rebounders, and score a lot. His game is really rounding into form nicely. We'd be in some trouble if he was just playing his first game Saturday at Kansas, as it kind of looked like he might have to do originally.

He's made some very nice strides since the beginning of the season and he's ready for really strong performances in B1G play.

OK watched Watson's 5th foul now - obviously ridiculous.  That was is bad as the call on Roby vs. Minnesota that went viral.   Someone needs to post a clip of that foul call also.

Outside of the officiating the game was both encouraging and frustrating.  Athletically we really outmatched Creighton much of the time and certainly were competitive and gave good effort.   A couple things go our way at the right time and we would have gotten a win over a top 25 team on the road - that doesn't happen often.  I did think we had some really strange lineups on the floor at times (Copeland with 4 guards at one point - not sure if Taylor or Gill was the 4?" - also had Roby, Copeland and Duby all on the floor at one point which was unusual in the opposite direction.).  Obviously some of that was caused by foul trouble - particularly the fact that we had to give so many minutes to Jack who just got abused on the defensive end.    You could really tell Glynn Watson wanted this win - certainly hope we can get it for him next year for his senior season.

Copeland and Palmer both had very nice games.   Roby as well in very limited minutes - he needs to find a way to avoid getting those cheap fouls.  Gill continues to give us more than I expected.   I wish Evan Taylor would avoid those times were he tries to do too much offensively - he needs to focus on defense and just take advantage of the offensive opportunities that come to him - not try to create things on his own.  We have other guys who are much better at that part of the game.  I do think we need of find a way to get Thomas Allen more shots.   I realize he is a freshman but he is our best pure shooter and we need to get him confident as a scoring threat and more aggressive on the offensive end.

For those who see this as an opportunity to bag on Miles - you must not have been around prior to when he got here.   We have not had the success I might have hoped for under Miles to this point - but we are "MILES" ahead of where we were under the prior regime - and the trajectory is at least trending slightly upward rather than pointed sharply down before he arrived.   I think back to the end of the Nee era when I was on board with those thinking we needed a change - but wow the 10 years that followed that change were difficult to get through.   Makes me appreciate the fact that we have at least taken a step upward from that point - and also makes me want to give the person who has us at least moving us in the right direction a chance to see it through.

I can get why people are upset as well.  We lost to Creighton.  That in itself sucks and pisses me off.  We were right there and had a chance to win!  This loss stings.  We were the better team for a majority of the game.  I get being mad with this loss.

What I have trouble getting is treating this loss like we just lost to Rutgers, Illinois, or Iowa at home that dropped us to 6 games under .500.  If we get to that point than I agree that it’s time to start talking new coach.  But a road loss to a fringe Top 25 team that many were predicting to be a 15 point loss that was a lot closer than the final score indicates... it baffles me how the “team can’t get it done... should Tim be gone” talk starts.

Like I said, it sucks losing to Creighton.  But this is one game in the grand scheme of things.  If you want to talk big picture than so be it.  But big picture will show that we have a win over a Top 25 team, have had consistent improvement this year from the beginning, and are no where near “fire Miles” talk at 7-4 through 11 games.

Have to believe you can win, then learn how to win.  We believed we could win today.  Tim Miles said something in one of his early post game interviews with Kent that has stuck with me, something to the effect that we get to watch this team grow up this year.  We're doing that, I think we're trending in the right direction.

Same ole as in we lost...again to Creighton. Make that 0-6 for Miles now. I’ll leave the moral victories to you.  It doesn’t change the trajectory of the season but Creightons complete ownage of Tim Mikes was old years ago.

The reality is Miles is now 0-6 but he was not the reason for this one. We struggled to score in the second half. The times we got our best look at shots and actually scored was after timeouts. He did a very good job with the whiteboard today. Let's say Jordy can make layups or say there are only two egregious calls that went against us instead of the plethora we experienced. Lot ways that game could have have been different today and I'm frustrated it ended that way. I don't know if you are in the camp, I don't pay enough attention to who posts what, but the "Yea! We won and are going to the dance!/Shit! We lost. Got fire MIles now" crowd is really annoying. That is the group I think is the most childish. Instant gratification is their way of life.

jordy's struggle is the dark cloud on this season so far. i never imagined he'd be struggling this bad, and it's making the loss of morrow/jacobsen more crucial than i thought it would be.

I have only read a handful of post today. Are there people saying Miles needs fired? I think Moos has been pretty clear he will not fire a coach during the season. Of course, losing to Creighton is not a fireable offense. But, losing six in a row vs them and topping it off with under .500 seasons over and over again is. We will see how this season plays out. We have enough talent to make the dance IMO.  But, I don’t have much faith in Miles. Hopefully he proves me wrong.

I agree that we have enough talent.  I think you would also agree that we have made strides since games 1-3.  And we both agree that we need to let this season play out before making any decisions.

Jaysker comment of the day as I left the arena. Blue fans sitting in a car waved my group of red clad people across the street. As soon as we crossed, Jaysker rolls his window down and yells "If you were Wisconsin fans I'd run you over!"

I’m usually not one to quote myself, but we “had” a top 25 win.  Minny got killed at Arkansas tonight.  Ugh!

I know that some may falter in seeing competiveness with  this team in light of the past three seasons -  but I see a new cohesiveness and intensity with our defensive effort and we do have a potential for greatly increased offense ability.  I know we did not compete as we should have with St. Johns and the 1st half with UCF  and # 3 Michigan State did school us pretty good.  But we did beat a Boston College team that wasn't any great shakes until they beat undefeated Duke today.  And we did handle a pretty talented ranked Minnesota team and we gave Creighton all they wanted - and could have won - so I guess I see great improvement for this point in the season - and great potential for the rest of the year.  I am a believer we're going in the right direction and we're going to get there.  Go Big Red.

Plenty of time to discuss the Miles/firing standpoint.   As others have mentioned....today he wasn't perfect, but he did a good job.   Wouldve liked to see some other lineups but the ticky tack calls that force McVeigh onto the floor would handcuff everyone

Should have led by a larger margin at halftime.  Thomas and Hegner were in first half foul trouble and Foster was MIA.  Game turned when we had too many poor offensive possessions with late in the shot clock attempts, is that due to our inept offense or Creighton’s improved defensive effort?  I thought Copeland made a key post game remark when he said we have individual talent that has yet to reveal team talent.  We can defeat Kansas, time to do it is next Saturday!

Without coming across like I'm okay with moral victories, without sounding pleased with a loss (still pissed) I'd like to point out that I'm encouraged by what I witnessed today.

    1. We didn't crap our pants out of the shoot in a game against Creighton

    2. We acted like we belonged on a road floor against a good team

    time to keep improving
