Oh, and one other thing -- when I say this was mismanaged, I don't just mean the lack of real extension, I mean the PR that goes with it. It's true that giving 2-3 more years with the comments Moos made would still give a hot-seat perception. But giving 2-3 more years while expressing support, not another "prove it again" statement (after another extended silence), removes the speculation. If money was really the big concern, he could have coupled a one-year extension with some great language expressing optimism and support, in a timely manner (as though he had several weeks between the end of football season and the end of basketball season to evaluate and come up with his options, rather than being reactive to what an arbitrary committee decides mere days before you know this question is going to arise publicly) and it may not have been quite as bad, although I still think would be lacking. In that regard, not crafting a positive message right away is just as big a mistake. At the end of the day, though, I think they go hand-in-hand, and personally I think he failed miserably at both.

Let me put this more succinctly than I did above:  If Tim Miles can take Nebraska to the dance twice in 7 seasons when they hadn't been there in 20 years before he arrived, and can win an NCAA tourney game when they'd never done that before in program history ...

Let's just say that, nationally, our coach is probably held in much higher esteem than he is by many of our own fans, including a number of ignorant louts who commonly post on the Huskers Online main board.

I get that appreciation can be an issue - especially on message boards, which bring out the worst. Isn’t this a ‘grass is greener’ scenario though? Every fan base has people who think the coach hasn’t done enough. And every AD will expect results that include tournament appearances and wins. It’s easy to say Miles will bolt for the Minnesota job, but Petino has had just as short of a leash as Miles with their AD and their fans have been every bit as vocal. That stuff is at every school. At the end of the day, this is Miles home, this is his families home and that arena will be full of people (sans a few a-holes) wanting the best for him and this program. I don’t see him being driven from here anytime soon.

I guess I'm trying to say, it's easy to say 'School A' is more appreciative of Miles when they swoop in and offer him a job coming off a career year and record breaking season, but I doubt that will overshadow 7 years of support and a big extension from Nebraska. And you better bet 'School A' is going to have just as high expectations (if not higher) and just as many fans ready to jump down your throat the minute things go wrong.

You could probably make the same kind of argument for why Ed Morrow shouldn't have transferred.  But when the Marquette coach comes to you and tells you how wonderful you are and the last coach you had just yelled at you and told you to "hustle" and "get back on D" and wasn't giving you the opportunity to play wing, what do you do?  The answer is Ed left.

Sometimes the grass really is greener; sometimes it only looks that way.  But moving on to a new situation because you didn't feel appreciated at the last one is a story as old as time.

Well said.   And if Moos' point was to protect our precious budget from an extra year payout if things didn't work out,  well, where was that fiscal restraint in agreeing to pay Akron $650,000 to not play a game (while paying Bethune Cookman $800k to play one), and then pay Akron $1.45 million to play a game in 2025.  WTF.   Pretty selective in saving $2-3 million when it's chump change for this department.

I hope we didn't extend the contract of the lawyer who drafted and/or reviewed the Akron contract and didn't define the cancellation circumstances voiding the payout for crap.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on this one @ladyhusker @Norm Peterson I don't have an issue with how Moos has handled this situation.

TM was told by his boss what he needed to do and if he did those things he would get a new contract. TM understands this.

There is no bad blood between TM and Moos. TM likes it here and wants to stay.

After we win 2+ games in the NCAA tournament he will be given a raise and will be in a much better position than if he had been given a new contract. Miles was going to be considered to be on the hot seat regardless, and rightly so, especially considering what we were suppose to have coming back.

No public bad blood, but behind closed doors is another thing.  You’re not going to convince me that Miles was “OK” with how last years extension played out.  So I guess we’ll agree to disagree.

Your info on "no bad blood between Miles and TM"?   And TM wants to stay?   You state those opinions as fact.

Kiss of death. Wish Moos would just keep his mouth shut at this point.

Don't worry, Norm.   Moos also played the "win 13 games in conference again card" .   As if the league isn't way better than last year.   Although I suppose the extra 2 games makes it more reasonable.    In any event, if he needs to qualify his support every time the subject comes up, maybe he should just keep his pie hole shut.

Did you actually listen to the show?

Most of it.  Misread the Heady article about the 13 wins; apparently that wasn't said tonight for a change.

I listened to the whole thing and basically all anyone here needs to listen to is from 7:05 to about 8:07

I had to try real hard to take what he said in any way other than very complimentary towards Miles and the team.  Also, I didn't hear anything about 13 wins.  Heady's article in the OWH re-used that quote because there basically was nothing to write about here.
