uneblinstu’s postgame chatter: vol 11, ed 11 - Oklahoma State in Sioux Falls

      Nebraska 79 Oklahoma St 56

Huskers pull away in the second half in front of a mostly red crowd

NU beat the uneblinstu Christmas party curse, so that’s cool. I didn’t get to watch much of the game, but it sounds like it went well. I’ll watch it later and get back to you.

Best thing not discussed much are not the results of palmers shot lately, but the elimination of some of the hitch in the giddyup.  It is a much more repeatable stroke now than it was earlier in the season.  Still shoots too high for my taste, but at least it has a chance at repeatability.

James Palmer 3-pt shooting first six games:  7/39

James Palmer 3-pt shooting next five games:  15/28

And, most importantly, JPJ seems to be able to score at will at every level, including his proficiency at the FT line. He's going to be tough to game plan for going forward.

I'll say that equally important to his scoring is his improved ability to find teammates for open looks. He's improved a great deal in that aspect and isn't just a guy looking to "get his".

People at the Pentagon where fairly lathered up  ?

JPJ has always been really good about distributing the ball but he's even managed to improve on that area, specifically when drives to the basket.

Oh, no doubt. That's equally as important to give up the rock. I was just referring to his scoring ability solely. He's an unusual specimen. He can do it all, kind of like James Harden lite.

Nice win, and a great crowd tonight.  By the way, this isn't the first time NU has played in Sioux Falls, but it's been a while.

Couldn't help but notice that there was a score typo in this 49 year-old article just like there is in tonight's OWH.  Some things never change, I guess.?

Thanks for sharing this, HuskerCager. My grandpa was Bob Gratopp's high school coach in Geneva. Heck of a ball player.

That was the first season I was old enough to pay attention. Tom Scantlebury, Marvin Stewart, Chuck Jura, Leroy Chalk, Bob Gratopp, Al Nissen, Ken Cauble ... Augustana didn't stana chance against the Huskers.

That was my first year for NU hoops as well. Moved back to Lincoln from Milwaukee the previous summer and a friend of the family gave me season tickets. Been a huge hoop fan ever since. Oh, and those family friends also got me a picture with Jura, Gratopp, and Scantlebury in it, autographed by all 3. Still have it.

As a bit of a  shooting form guru, do you think the stroke looks better as well or I am being too result influenced and making things up in my head?

Here is a not too good observation regarding James.  The good news is that this "possible issue" is very correctable.  James does a good job pressuring the ball; but in doing so, his man will dribble penetrate with James hanging (figuratively) at his side.  What then happens is Cope or Isaiah provides great help defense.  But when they come to help, James is not taking the next necessary step; and that is boxing out the player that Roby or Cope was originally covering.   The shot is challenged and missed, but we are not getting the resulting rebound.

Last evening, especially in the first half, OSU was getting a number of second chance points as a result.  Further evidence is the lack of rebounds James has had in the past couple of games.  Am I totally off base, or is my observation correct?

That said, he is doing so much right, it is hard to find areas of opportunity.  Perhaps this will be something to keep an eye on as we move towards conference play.

Thanks for these well thought out posts!  Next level posting!

I read  elsewhere that is Tanner Borchardt's Grandmother (sitting in front of Miles' parents) cheering the score @ 2:09!

Love reading what others have to say about us.  This is from btpowerhouse.com

    Game of the Day:

-Nebraska Cornhuskers 79, Oklahoma State Cowboys 56

While Nebraska was favored heading into its matchup against Oklahoma State on Sunday night, most expected it to be relatively competitive. The Cowboys were 65th on KenPom and had already recorded a win over LSU and two other top 120 opponents.

But on Sunday, it was all Nebraska.

The Huskers were able to get up in the first half and then pummeled Oklahoma State in the opening minutes of the second half. James Palmer led the way with 29 points and Isaac Copeland and Thomas Allen also finished with double-digits.

This win pushed Nebraska to 9-2 overall and gave it another quality win. The Huskers have five wins against top 100 opponents and four came in blowout victories. Nebraska will now face Cal State Fullerton at home on Saturday.

It's hard to quite put my finger on it, but I agree there was a hitch in his shot.  It ain't perfect now, but it's better than it was.  It's like there was a little hitch at the top of his backswing, a little hesitation at the top before firing through with the shot.  You could see it during games, but then it would disappear while shooting around at halftime.

He still leans waaaaay backward when he shoots and he still draws the ball from his left hip, and kind of gets the ball going from in front of his left eye, but that little hitch appears to be smoothed out.

I'm thinking the Minnesota comeback could be the turning point in the season.  Ever since then, we played very well for 40 minutes against Creighton and very well for the last 25 minutes against OSU.  I wonder how pissed we are if we hold on to beat Minnesota.  We seemed to take out our frustration on these last 2 teams.
