Nebraska to host Georgia Tech for the 2020-21 ACC-B1G Challenge

Nebraska will get a chance at revenge as they host Georgia Tech for the ACC-B1G Challenge on Wednesday, Dec 9th, 2020. Last year, the Yellow Jackets walked away with a 73-56 victory in Atlanta.  The Yellowjackets return 4 of 5 starters from last year's 17-14 squad which ranked 16th in KenPom's defensive efficiency metric.

Here are the rest of the matchups. Note that unlike in previous years no games are scheduled for scheduled for Monday which means 7 games with occur on Tuesday and Wednesday. Given that ESPN plans to roll this out on ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU there will either be a couple of very early or very late scheduled games.  Seems possible that Nebraska in the central time zone could start a game at 9pm or later.

Garza is getting lots of love for national preseason POTY so no surprise that Iowa draws a blue blood.  Also, this really looks like a year where the B1G just has too much depth for the ACC to compete with.  At least on paper, the B1G should win the challenge pretty easily.

Just to verify my own memory test I decided to look up Andy Katz's preseason power rankings.  He apparently does a Top 36 (...kind of a random number...) and includes 8 ranked B1G teams compared to 4 ranked ACC teams.

    B1G: Illinois (4), Iowa (5), Wiscy (6), Sparty (12), Rutgers (13), Michigan (17), Indiana (18), Purdue (32)

ACC: UVA (7), Duke (11), Florida State (21), UNC (26)

Why Georgia Tech two years consecutive?

Why so many consecutive (or +1 year) games for Nebraska?

    2011/2012: Wake Forest

    2013/2015: Miami

    2016/2018: Clemson

    2019/2020: Georgia Tech

ESPN picks the matchups and the primary concern is TV ratings. After that you need to account for who has been home or away which is why you tend to get duplicates
