    Huskers Announce Georgetown Transfer

Lincoln – University of Nebraska basketball coach Tim Miles announced that Moses Abraham Ayegba (pronounced EYE-eg-buh) has signed transfer papers to attend the University of Nebraska. A native of Kano, Nigeria, Ayegba will graduate from Georgetown with a degree in economics next month and will be eligible for the 2014-15 season.

“We are excited to have Moses Ayegba join our program,” Nebraska Coach Tim Miles said. “He provides us a veteran physical presence on the interior, and he can affect the game on the defensive end with his rebounding and shot blocking. When building a defense from the inside out, you are looking for a player who can protect the rim and be an anchor, and we think Moses can do that for us. We also think he has the tools to improve on the offensive end and believe he has a chance to flourish in our system next year.”

Ayegba played in 31 games at Georgetown last season, averaging 1.9 points on 56 percent shooting and 2.8 rebounds per game, as the Hoyas went 18-15 and reached the second round of the NIT. The 6-foot-9, 247-pound Ayegba was second the team with 23 blocked shots while averaging 13.1 minutes per game. His best game of the season was in an overtime loss to Marquette, when he had six points, five rebounds and four blocked shots in a career-high 30 minutes of work. He had five or more rebounds in seven games, including eight against both Butler and High Point and seven at Big East Tournament champion Providence.

During his sophomore season, he returned from a knee injury to appear in 28 games, averaging 1.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per game to help the Hoyas win the Big East regular-season title and reach the NCAA Tournament. He came off the bench and played at least 10 minutes in 11 contests, including 10 times in Big East play. He grabbed a career-high 10 rebounds in games at Notre Dame and at Syracuse and had eight boards in 18 minutes against Cincinnati.

During his first three years, including a medical redshirt year, at Georgetown, he worked with current Husker assistant coach Kenta Hunter, as the Hoyas made three straight NCAA Tournament appearances.

Ayegba attended Progressive Christian (Md.) Academy and averaged 15 points, 16 rebounds and 12 blocks per game in his only season at the school. He was top-100 recruit by Rivals and was among the top-20 centers in the country by both Rivals and Scout.com in the class of 2010.

The son of Josephine Adikou, he will graduate with a degree in economics and also looked at Indiana, Boston College, Miami and Long Beach State before selecting Nebraska.

Ayegba joins a Nebraska program that went 19-13 under Miles and reached the second round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The Huskers return all five starters, including All-Big Ten performers Terran Petteway and Shavon Shields, and a roster that returns 82 percent of its scoring and 86 percent of its rebounding from a year ago.

I wasn't actually being serious.  Just having fun with the idea that his mom might have flown out here if he hadn't had his mind pretty well made up by that point.

    Interesting nugget from BR...

Ayegba said his relationship with Hunter played a key role in him coming to Nebraska. Indiana, Boston College, Miami and Long Beach State also showed interest in Ayegba as a transfer, he said.

Hey, how'd you embed that tweet!?!

You click on the twitter time stamp that says 5m or whatever...that takes you to the individual page then copy the address line and paste into the reply. Dimes had to teach me before I got it right.

I am simply amazed that 14 people have posted about this already so late at night.

Seriously, Nebrasketball is big time now!

Now I have to go figure out who this man is; I will refrain from saying young since he is a college grad.

    #BOOOOOOOOOM!!!

A Nebraska basketball team that is expected to do big things this next season and is already being ranked #17 in some way too early preseason polls just got even more dangerous. One of the weaknesses Nebraska had last season was a lack of a serious post presence. They addressed that concern.

The addition of Moses Ayegba is HUGE for multiple reasons. He was a 4-Star Rivals150 prospect coming out of high school and has a 7'-4" wingspan, so he is that rim protector that Nebraska has desperately needed. But, perhaps equally as important, he will be able to play the 5-spot, so that Pitchford can move over to the 4-spot (which is his more natural position). I believe we will see Pitchford make a big jump next season because of this, because he won't be asked to play out of position.

Nebraska will not be undersized next season. In fact, they will be just the opposite:

    Starting Lineup:

    1- Webster (6' 3")

    2- Petteway (6' 6")

    3- Shields (6' 7")

    4- Pitchford (6' 10")

    5- Ayegba (6' 9")

NU is the clearly the best team on that list right now - and I'm sure that Indiana student who was commenting at the end of last season's game would agree with me.  :P

This is the kind of news that makes the early alarm clock worth it! Great roster management by Coach - even if he only gives us 10-15 min per game next season, between he and Smith and Hammond, it allows Walt to play almost exclusively at the 4. Plus frees up another scholarship for a 2015 class that could be pretty impressive.

And Ayegba gets to play in a B1G time conference, rather than a league that's a shadow of its former self, and he gets to go back to the NCAAs in his final season. Win-win all the way around!  B)

He wanted to wait to announce until after Georgetown's banquet.

So . . . Ayegba must have received confirmation of good news on the Aca-frickin-demic front.

And the first "odd piece" falls in place. Here is an odd fact to go with it. Nebraska exports the largest portion of it's red wheat crop to Nigeria. Perhaps he came to savor the wheat.

Sounds like that could be on the front of our next T-shirt, Jimmy. "Savor the Wheat".

Hi everybody...long time anonymous browser of this great site but finally decided to register and participate.

I wanted to chime in Moses' height...my son and I happened to be walking into the Spring Game right behind Coach Miles, Terran Petteway, and Moses.  Standing side by side flat-footed, Moses was barely taller than Terran.  I'm guessing 6'-7" at most.  I see him listed as 6'-9" in places and considered a center...and due to his wingspan and skillset that's probably what he'll play...but I think people should be prepared for the fact he's not overly tall.  That doesn't mean he isn't a great pickup or won't do everything we need him to, but I had to do a double-take. (or maybe Terran is even taller than I realized!)

On that note...I sometimes think that "height" is overrated.  I look at Edward Morrow's videos and even though he's listed on the shorter side, his long arms turn him into an inside force.  Truly, watching him inside dunk with seemingly no effort, not requiring great leaping ability...he plays much longer than his listed height.  I believe Moses will be the same.

Great finally interacting with you fellow true NU believers.  Been a fan and season ticket holder since Iba.

You do mention it here and I think it's important. More important than the height the top of his head reaches when flat-footed. Wingspan. It was reported at nearly 7'4". That's huge.

FWIW, Leslee Smith isn't really as tall as he's listed and most other players aren't either. They all lie.

    Welcome.

There's a Moses/Sea of Red joke in here somewhere...

The cool thing would have been a planned crowd during the spring game around the group. Then like a flash mob everyone knows to move aside. That way Moses would part the Red Sea.
