Isaiah Roby picked 45th in the 2019 NBA draft

Isaiah Roby was selected by the Dallas Mavericks (via the Detroit Pistons in completing a trade) during the 2nd round of the NBA draft, 45th overall. Roby becomes the first Nebraska player drafted since Venson Hamilton in 1999. Roby is just the 6th Nebraska player taken in the first 2 rounds of the draft joining Marvin Stewart (2nd, 1971), Rich King (1st, 1991), Eric Piatkowski (1st, 1994), Tyronn Lue (1st, 1998) and  Venson Hamilton (2nd, 1999).

Isaiah was with friends and family watching the draft.

While our lack of participation in this yearly event has been well documented, it’s interesting to note Northwestern is right there with us: Evan Eschmeyer in ‘99 by NJ. Surprisingly Goldy the Gopher is next up the ladder with Kris Humphries in ‘04 (pre-Kardashian) to the Jazz. Then it’s Rutgers in ‘10 with Hamady N’Diaye to the Wolves. Michigan St. has the most draft picks in that time frame with 12 followed by OSU with 11...

The NBA isn't the only draft where NU has fallen on hard times.  NFL and MLB have been really lacking as of late.  The good news is, it's all about to change in all 3 sports.  Take that, B1G!

It goes without saying, maybe the best thing about Hoiberg, Frost & Bolt isn’t their resume/experience or “Nebraska ties” it’s their relative youth. If things play out as we all hope, they could have John Cook, Francis Allen or Peppin type careers at the U!

Would say TO has a similar career at NU compared to the three you listed. And we should add the shooting team and bowling team coaches to this list.

Nebrasketball had a bunch of NBA players who played at NU in the 90s.

5 NCAA Tournament appearances give weight to this notion: Good players = Good teams.

For sure, I left T.O. off my short list because what he accomplished won’t be replicated anywhere, anytime...

Can't argue that although Saban is pretty close.

Not to go on a complete Football rant here, BUT Osborne's worst record (as we all know) was 9-3-1, in TWENTY FIVE years. That will never, never ever happen again. Plus he's not saddled with the Miami Dolphin debacle, like Saban or his so-so time at Michigan St.

Anyway, back to  the matter at hand. Hopefully Roby will be the first of MANY Huskers drafted in the very near future. I'm convinced he'll go early 2nd round, hopefully to a team that will bring him along slow & not bury him on the bench.

The Golden State Warriors acquired an extra 2nd round pick this morning - #41 from the Atlanta Hawks.  They are likely losing Durant, Bogut is old, and Cousins is likely gone to another team.  Golden State was one of a handful of teams that interviewed Roby during the combine and they also had him out recently for a private workout.  I'm calling my shot and saying that Roby ends our 21st Century draft drought and is selected #41 by the Golden State Warriors.

FWIW Dan Patrick has it on "good sources" that Klay Thompson is on his way to playing for his father's team, the Los Angeles Lakers. I'd love to see Roby go to a high-profile squad with a Championship pedigree. Durant's status is obviously up in the air as well, but he WOULD get valuable minutes with the Warriors and who wouldn't want to live/play in the City by the Bay?
