Coaches name James Palmer Jr to All B1G squad

Palmer gets the nod in the coaches poll alongside Keita Bates-Diop, Miles Bridges, Carsen Edwards, and Tony Carr

Palmer made 2nd team in the media poll with Ethan Happ taking his place on the first team.

James is the first Husker since Terran Petteway in 2013-14 to make the first team

Palmer should've been 1st team in both but we shouldn't be surprised he's not in the media because they've been discounting Nebraska's success all year.

Exactly.  The people who have to game-plan for us aren't discounting us.

What was the expectation for Palmer coming into the year? Was he expected to be really good?

not first team all conference good, no.

Yeah, I know that. Was he projected to be our top scorer or possibly our best player?

He was projected to be a starter but most people thought Copeland and Watson would contribute more. There was one media member who was very high on Palmer and I can't remember who that was right now. That person deserves props.

I believe @Jacob Padilla said it on this board. Was really high on him.

Robin Washut tweeted that Palmer would be our leading scorer.

I don't get too many things right but I said he would be our top scorer after watching the open practice.

I got that impression too after Palmer scored 17 and the next highest scoring player in the scrimmage had 10.

Of course, prior to that, he also had 17 against Mississippi State and our next highest scoring player had 11.

Pre open scrimmages amd exhibitions, I had him pegged around 8 or 9 pts. After getting more info he was either my leading scorer or second, cant remember. But it would have been closer to 15 points than 17.

Mississippi State was an eye-opener for sure.  He showed a lot of what he could do right off the bat.

That's the only game I can remember clearly where he started hot and cooled off.  Otherwise, it seems like he's hit stride more in the second half of games.  He puts up a lot of points that you just don't notice because he's not calling for the ball all the time.

Now, second half, holding a lead, we usually run a little weave until we get it into his hands and let him create, but I'm just talking in the timeframe of the normal flow of a game where he seems to get harder to stop later in the action.  Or he just rises to the occasion and starts making things happen when we get closer to crunch time.

All I ever heard is people saying Palmer wasn’t qualifying and that his shooting percentage at Miami was terrible.

As a person who religiously follows football recruiting and rankings...basketball recruiting fascinate me. They tend to be pretty accurate. Check it out...Rivals ratings added:

    2017-18 All-Big Ten Men’s Basketball Team
As selected by Big Ten coaches

    FIRST TEAM
    MILES BRIDGES, MICHIGAN STATE - 5-stars, #10 in R150 (2016)
    James Palmer Jr., Nebraska - 4-stars, #99 in R150 (2014)
    KEITA BATES-DIOP, OHIO STATE - 4-stars, #26 in R150 (2014)
    Tony Carr, Penn State - 4-stars, #46 in R150 (2016)
    Carsen Edwards, Purdue - 4-stars, #91 in R150 (2016)

    SECOND TEAM
    Juwan Morgan, Indiana - 3-stars, #109 in R150 (2015)
    Moritz Wagner, Michigan - 4-stars (2015)
    Jae'Sean Tate, Ohio State - 4-stars, #79 in R150 (2014)
    Vincent Edwards, Purdue - 3-stars, #124 in R150 (2014)
    Ethan Happ, Wisconsin - 3-stars, #123 in R150 (2014)

    THIRD TEAM
    Anthony Cowan Jr., Maryland - 4-stars, #45 in R150 (2016)
    Jaren Jackson Jr., Michigan State - 5-stars, #6 in R150 (2017)
    Cassius Winston, Michigan State - 4-stars, #29 in R150 (2016)
    Jordan Murphy, Minnesota - 3-stars, #113 in R150 (2015)
    Isaac Haas, Purdue - 4-stars, #71 in R150 (2014)

    HONORABLE MENTION
    Leron Black, Illinois - 4-stars, #38 in R150 (2014)
    Robert Johnson, Indiana - 4-stars, #48 in R150 (2014)
    Tyler Cook, Iowa - 4-stars, #74 in R150 (2016)
    Kevin Huerter, Maryland - 4-stars, #59 in R150 (2016)
    Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman, Michigan - 3-stars (2014)
    Nick Ward, Michigan State - 4-stars, #41 in R150 (2016)
    Nate Mason, Minnesota - 3-stars (2014)
    Isaac Copeland Jr., Nebraska - 5-stars, #23 in R150 (2014)
    Lamar Stevens, Penn State - 4-stars, #96 in R150 (2016)
    Mike Watkins, Penn State - 3-stars, #126 in R150 (2015)
    Dakota Mathias, Purdue - 3-stars, #147 in R150 (2014)

So...of the 26 players that made the All-Big Ten teams, 23 were listed as Rivals150 players coming out of high school, and another one was a 4-star international player. The 1st team contains four 4-star players, and one 5-star.

    Discuss.
