    Andrew White Transfering

Interesting that Lee used the word disgusted to describe Miles' tone...

Miles is very outspoken and given the timing and the talent AW3 possesses I'm sure we wasn't very pleased.

I would be very upset if I was a coach, who gave him advice during the NBA draft, and when the player is suppose to get ahold of you, he instead goes to the AD to ask if he could transfer. At least ask me if you want to transfer, and don't wait a month after announcing you are coming back to school.
Right. I don't know or claim to know anything about what supposedly goes on behind the scenes, but from what I can tell Miles was as helpful as you could ask for throughout AW3's draft process and, on the surface, it seems like AW3 screwed him and the team over.

This is just a gut punch, no other way to describe it.  I can't believe our luck.  I had a high degree of respect for Andrew White.  I really thought he had a high level of maturity and integrity.  This move surprises me because I really thought he was a different kind of person.

Frankly this speaks not only on him, but to many college athletes of this day and age.  Gone are the virtues of perseverance, fortitude,  endurance, being team oriented.  If Andrew White doesn't think the Huskers are going to be good enough next season to where he won't be on a big enough stage because he thinks we're not winning, what he's really saying, whether he's aware of it or not, is that he is not good enough to earn a spot in the NBA on his own merit.

Where is the will, the determination to fight?  Where is the willingness to stick with your teammates, take it upon your shoulders along with your teammates, and go out and change the presumed outcome?  He's quitting on team, and quitting on himself.  He is, IMO, taking what he perceives to be the easier road to what he hopes will be the NBA, rather than looking at the good situation he has here, and trying to make it even better.

Someone fill me in. How does White leaving affect Tai deciding to leave?? I don't see the correlation

Someone stated in a different thread that if AW3 turned pro (at the time it was NBA or Nebraska for AW3) Tai would also be leaving (not sure if it's a transfer or overseas ball).

I second the spot on here. Looks totally selfish on aw3 and rumored to be his father. I guess my word would be disappointed and mislead. On to the players that are on the actual roster now.

What about the role of handlers, AAU guys, and the impending-coach-for-AW-III-in-waiting (who surely contacted White, i.e. tampering)... this whole situation reeks to high heaven. I really liked the type of guy that White seemed to be when he was "all N" but this new handled Andrew is not a guy many Husker hoopsters can be too pleased with, and neither would the general hoops fandom in the state of Nebraska likely be with him at the moment.

Nebraska will overcome this, just like losing Petteway the prior year. Although a ton falls on the shoulders of Webster, Gill, and Watson, I truly think they are up to the task. Those three need to run the show by getting the rest of the team on the path to greatness by putting in the work & let the chips fall where they may. GBR

Well, if he had all of those qualities to begin with, then he wouldn't have been a Husker at all; he would have stayed a Jayhawk. Right?

When guys like Seth Greenberg and Jeff Goldman are tweeting things referencing how sketchy this situation is, you know there was some back door dealings going on. I usually am not for restricting a players transfer options, but this situation seems to call for it.

That being said I am still looking forward to this season, the kids who want to be here, and want to compete for the name on the front of the jersey and not the back of the jersey. Hopefully it gives them some extra motivation.

Well lets try and find the bright side here, as much as it sucks to have to do.  In theory, it would seem that we are going to be better the following year than we otherwise would have been.  Given our youth, there are a lot of minutes that will be played by people that will back the next season.  There are few scenarios that lead to being better this year without White, but if he was going to be selfish and not all that committed then maybe it is best in the long run.  Our young players are going to get a lot of minutes now.  Time to grow up in a hurry.

The fact that Andrew White thinks he has even a chance of sniffing the NBA is an even bigger joke than he has made himself.

Truly a completely chicken ish move on every front.

This kid is nowhere close to NBA potential and the sideshow here is clearly him, NOT Miles.

Enjoy your six years in Europe, Andy, and having absolutely no legacy at any school you played at.

    Joke.

worst part about this is he nearly waited until july to make this decision. now we have 2 open scholarships, and possibly 3 if tai really does leave.

The difference with Tai is he would have to sit out a year, as he hasn't graduated, yet, or go play pro for New Zealand.

Or he simply stays home to play professionally.

Shopping... I don't know if that's what I would call it.

Helicopter parenting with an AAU culture is tough. Andrew is a good kid and I won't bash him. What he did do is incredibly selfish. He is t an NBA player, I don't care who he plays for, he isn't quick enough, beyond other flaws. He and his family were friends of Kenya's for some time. Their are things that I don't want to share on a message board.

I don't think Tai is going anywhere even if he would be "unhappy". He's better than that and his situation is different.

What I would say is Tim needs to get his shit together.

It will be fun to watch these young guys. They are really thin at the guard spot now.

This all seems a bit related to the topic I introduced on the general basketball forum yesterday. The focus seems to have shifted in the last few years to junior high kids with a modicum of talent who are being told by "handlers" who are usually family that they no longer need college, or even high school to get to the NBA. Therefore, the focus is purely on the individual and there is no loyalty to coaches or institutions which do not seem to be appropriately tuned in to "showcasing" the player for the NBA. I'm not blaming Andrew for buying into this pipe dream and at least he was wise enough to get a degree first which may reflect well on both NU and KU when he has a real career. The only thing he is missing out on is the chance to become part of a basketball tradition at either institution. I would imagine that he might have become part of the "legendary" team that brought NU its first NCAA victory had he been able to stick it out for another year. Now this honor will belong to others.

I would have to guess someone close to Andrew told him to leave Nebraska and get on a team that will be in the top 20.

My problem with this move is the late timing of this decision, NU will most likely not add another player for next year, and now have two open scholarships and a transfer sitting out, and a roster of only 10 active scholarship players. (Not acceptable)

With Mr White's decision NU will most likely have another losing season in 16-17.

The way things are going under Miles NU will always be young team and in the BIG that spells doom for most teams.

What is up with his scholarship release? I thought if you are a graduate you can transfer to any school, the only thing is you must take a graduate class not offered by your previous school.

Man I went from dreading the season to be excited to dreading

This has to be especially tough for you, Pimp, since your #1 pick in the Inaugural HHC Pick-up Game Draft just transferred.  I'm not sure how your squad is going to absorb a hit like that.  Do you think you'll maybe play more of a high-low post offense?

I really hope Miles can spin this into motivation for the team. AW3 basically is saying he doesn't think the other players are good enough to help him get where he needs to be (i kniw when i was an athlete and teammate this would've pissed me off). If I were the coaching staff I would plaster AW3s face all over the practice facilities as a constant reminder. Of course this might not work for everyone but it sure as hell would motivate me.
