I can appreciate kids who will do the dirty work & like it a la Evan Taylor. If Amir Harris can be a more athletic ET in the earlier stages of AH's NU career, I'll be content with that level of production. I think that he's a great fit at Nebraska. That means a lot, imho.

I am pretty sure we still have an open scholie.  Anyone with that athleticism wouldn't hurt in the slightest.  ?

I'm available to travel on the team plane. ?

This is a question for @Norm Peterson but I would like to hear anyone’s opinion. How does harris shot look compared to a young tai Webster’s? If I remember right he was no marksman his freshman year and ended up atleast average

    Looks way worse.

    Yeah, way worse.

Tai's shot actually never looked *bad*.  There were things you could do to tweak it, but if you go back and look at some of his Australia film before he signed here, he was a guy with a decent shot.  I think he shot over 40% from three in a tournament for his Australian national team back then.  That gave me a lot of hope for his future here.

I think it was @basketballjones who discussed how Tai's shot never really had good rhythm to it, but just due to sheer effort and hard work, he developed into a decent shooter.  The form ain't bad, though.  I would never have suggested to break Tai's shot down and start over from scratch.

Amir, on the other hand, oh booy.  I wonder if he's ever watched video of his shot just to see what it looks like.  His mechanics are just awful.  And if he's a guy who isn't taking many jumpers (and making even fewer), there's little risk to starting over and building him back from the ground up.

I don't know that Amir will ever be a good shooter; the goal, probably, should be to get him to at least the level of being adequate.  But it has to start with a major overhaul of his shooting mechanics.

I haven't seen every minute of every game this year and haven't had a chance to watch much of warmups, but had he taken a jumper during a real game? I can't think of one. Everything I've seen has been at the rim or free throw line, I think.

    You’re correct. Hasn’t attempted a jumper yet.

Can we get him to Benny Parker-level shooting efficiency? If so, the 10 extra inches he has on Benny would make him a valuable starter, plus he has better handles than Benny.

Amir will likely improve his jumper.  Actually his lower body is fine, but his release point is funky.  The thing that concerns me though, is that he should have/could have altered that issue way before now.  What will it take for him to make the changes moving forward?  I think I know that answer, but he is the one who has to do it.

I hope he can be our version of josh reaves, might never be the shooter that reaves has become but if he did all the other things that he does I’d be more then happy.

All n all he’s only played in a hand full of college games for maybe 40 total minutes and I am hopeful that not redshirting will show him where he needs to improve at for next year. If anything at worst he’s probably a 4 year rotational player and we don’t get that here very often

He's more efficient he's but less proficient.  Parker looks like Terran Petteway compared to how much Amir shoots out there (this is mildly hyperbolic)

All Amir’s highlights from his high school video, on the offense side, are dunks, layups or assists—not a single jump shot.  Here is one video.

Let’s stiplate that Amir should be shooting nothing but dunks and layups these days.  But still, he is averaging 12.6 minutes, 2.9 rebounds and 1.6 points per game in this early part of the season, along with only 5 turnovers against 8 assists, 3 blocks and 4 steels.

Can his strengths mask his shooting deficiency and overcome his defenders who sag to clog up the lane?  Time will tell.
