Huskers Hit Road to Take on Hoosiers Thursday in Bloomington

The Nebraska women's basketball team opens a two-game Big Ten road swing by heading to Bloomington to take on Indiana. Tip-off between the Huskers and the Hoosiers is set for 5:30 p.m.

First-year coach Curt Miller leads a revitalized Indiana program into Thursday night's game with the Huskers. The Hoosiers carry a 10-5 overall record after Sunday's 68-64 win over Northwestern at Assembly Hall in Bloomington. Last season, Indiana staggered to a 6-24 overall record, including a 1-15 Big Ten mark.

The Hoosiers feature an experienced starting five with a trio of seniors and a pair of juniors. Aulani Sinclair, a 6-1 senior forward, is one of the Big Ten's top scorers at 19.9 points per game.

Indiana has proven themselves as a scrappy, hard-nosed team through 15 games. Four of the

Hoosiers' five losses have been by single digits, and they own three wins by five points or less. The only team to pull away from Indiana was current RPI No. 13 Michigan (65-48) in the Big Ten opener at Ann Arbor on Jan. 3. The Hoosiers have also been good at home, carrying an 8-2 record at Assembly Hall into Thursday's battle with the Huskers.

Nebraska is 1-2 all-time in the series with Indiana, including a 62-48 victory over the Hoosiers at the Devaney Center last season.

Nebraska will be looking to bounce back from a 69-66 overtime loss to Purdue. The game marked the third straight overtime game between the Huskers and Boilermakers. In three all-time meetings with Indiana's other Big Ten team, Nebraska has played six overtimes.

    Probable Starters:

    1 - Jasmine McGhee - 5-11 - Sr. - G

    11 - Andrea Newbauer - 5-9 - Jr. - G

Lindsey Moore leads the Big Ten in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.5-to-1) with 84 assists and three-point field goal percentage (.500), while ranking third in assists (5.6 apg). She also ranks fifth in overall field goal percentage (.513), and ninth in the Big Ten in scoring (16.2 ppg). Moore ranks 11th in free throw percentage (.811) and is tied for 11th in both steals (2.0 spg) and three-pointers made per game (1.8).

Jordan Hooper ranks among the top 10 in the Big Ten in six categories. She is No. 3 in the league with her 8.9 rebounds per game, while ranking sixth in the conference in scoring at 18.9 points per contest. She is tied for fifth in the Big Ten in three-pointers made per game with 2.7, while ranking 10th in free throw percentage (.815). Indiana seniors Sasha Chaplin and Jasmine McGhee are game-time decisions for Thursday’s game against Nebraska  after being limited in practice the past two days.

IU Coach Curt Miller said Chaplin was able to participate in several non-contact drills to see how she was feeling, but neither Chaplin nor McGhee “truly participated in any kind of practice” Wednesday.

Chaplin, who averages 13.4 minutes off the bench at the center position, is recovering from a mild concussion. She did not practice at all Tuesday and sat out of Sunday’s 68-64 win against Northwestern.

McGhee rolled her left ankle midway through the second-half against the Wildcats but finished the game. She also did not practice on Tuesday and was seen receiving treatment for the injury. McGhee, the team’s starting shooting guard, is second on the team in scoring with 11.9 points per game.

I've been impressed throughout the game with the play from Cady and Theriot. Cady really stepped up in the first half when Hooper wasn't getting great looks, and Theriot has been lights out in the absence of a good scoring night from Moore. Even bench players like Laudermill and Simon have had great moments. Great showing overall so far.

NU gives IU a 67 -38 thrashing in Bloomington! All Huskers all the time. Theriot and Laudermill were players of the game. Even Katie Simon played well. Starters rested most of the second half. Hooper and Cady both with double doubles. Little sloppy at the start and a little sloppy at the end. If Theriot shoots like that against Purdue we win.
