I smell a bump in the rankings.

I smell caviar.  And single-malt scotch.  Could be a bump in the rankings, but it smells like caviar.  And single-malt scotch.

Decent scotch starts at $60.  Decent bourbon starts at $30.  I'd much rather have two bottles of Four Roses than one bottle of Glenmorangie.  Plus, bourbon smells better!

Actually, I think I have to agree with you.  I really, really like Knob Creek Single Barrell bottled at 120 proof.  I had a wisky snob taste test it against Balvenie Doublewood 12-yr-old and he was certain the Knob Creek was the expensive single malt scotch.  The Balvenie retails for about $70 and the Knob Creek Single Barrell for about half that.

But when you're trying to say this win smelled like something ritzy and expensive, saying it smells like Kentucky bourbon just doesn't have the same cachet.

Okay, you all make some decent points on the Whiskey, but the best drink out there that I've found is this:

Masterson's Rye.  It is better, IMO, than most single malt scotches...on par with the best.

But I digress.  On to the rankings!

So, how far did we fall before our current 4-game win streak?  We were at least in the high 130s, right?

We hit 156 after losing at home to Indiana. We actually jumped up after our loss to Iowa on the road.

78 x 2 = 156

So, in the five games since the Indiana loss, we've climbed half way to #1.

We're almost there, baby!  Five more games should do it!  Keep it rolling!

(That's the way it works, right?)

Well, beating a whole slew of teams in the 300's has taken a major hit on NU. But, another way to look at it, the Huskers wouldn't be in the position of playing "winning basketball" without the benefit of playing those 300+ RPI teams, either. Risk-reward. As Al Davis would have said, "JUST WIN, BABY!" ;)

Our RPI is around 150... That is not good.  Even if we win our next 3 it won't be higher than 80.  How shitty is that!

Am I missing something here? Above this thread it says Kenpom has us at 77?

Our RPI and KenPom rankings are waaaaay apart so far this season.

What kind of sucks... is that the "cupcake" teams that we scheduled (2 were part of the tournament) are not doing well this year.  Everyone plays cupcake teams.  It's just that some cupcake teams perform better than others and therefore they have a better RPI and the RPI of the team that beat them improves as well.  We have not played a soft schedule at all.  Sure we played "cupcakes," but so have everyone else!  It is just that our cupcakes are not doing well and the other cupcakes are doing better (for the most part)

Now I know we did ourselves NO favors by losing our big OOC games, and that Samford game is a butt killer.  But to those who think we have played a soft schedule... check this stat out.  We have challenged ourselves and did it early, and I think that is totally helping us 100 percent right now.

Games against AP/USA Today top 25 (winning percentage)

Iowa-- 6/6 (67%)

Nebraska-- 5/5 (20%)

Wisconsin-- 5/5 (40%)

Michigan-- 5/4 (20%; 25%)

Illinois-- 4/4 (25%)

Ohio State-- 3/3 (33%)

Michigan St-- 3/3 (66%)

Northwestern-- 3/3 (0%)

Penn State-- 3/3 (0%)

Rutgers-- 2/2 (0%)

Minnesota-- 1/2 (0%)

Purdue-- 1/2 (0%; 50%)

Indiana-- 1/1 (0%)

Maryland-- 1/1 (0%)

As you can see we have had more challenging games than most, but we are only winning 20 percent of those games or 1 out of the 5 games we played.  The teams in the bottom of the conference standings have not been challenged much and therefore are struggling now.  What does this mean?  I do not really know, but I know the challenging schedule early most likely attributed in some way to this 4 game winning streak that we are on.

Two more games left against top 30 opponents, then it's back to cupcake city, baby!!

Okay, maybe not cupcakes.  Maybe more like crownies??
