A little history review before the big exam

You didn't know there was going to be a test, did you?  Well, OK, maybe there won't be.  But let's still do a review.

March 2012 -- Doc Sadler is fired.

March-April 2012 -- Tim Miles is hired.

Players Tim Miles inherited:

Brandon Ubel

Dylan Talley

Andre Almeida

Ray Gallegos

David Rivers

Corey Hilliard

Jack Schitt

Notes:  At the end of the 2012 season, Josiah Moore transferred, so he was off the roster when Miles arrived.  After the end of the 2012 season, Corey Hilliard got credited for a steal but since it was downtown and someone's cell phone rather than a basketball at Devaney, it didn't go on his stat sheet but rather on his rap sheet.  So, buh bye Corey.

2012 Recruits Tim Miles inherited:

Benny Parker

Shavon Shields

Fahro Aphrodisiac

Keith Coleman

Jerran Young

Notes:  All of the above signed LOIs under Doc Sadler.  Miles re-recruited Parker and Shields but let Aphrodisiac go to UAB; Coleman went to North Texas; and Young ended up at Wright State.

2012 Recruits Tim Miles signed in the spring period of 2012:

Deverell Biggs

Sergej Vucetic

Transfers Tim Miles brought in during Spring/Summer 2012:

Terran Petteway

Walt Pitchford

Nebraska Basketball Roster 2012-2013 Season (Miles' first year):

Andre El Grande

Brandon Ubel

Dylan Talley

Ray Gallegos

David Rivers

Benny Parker

Shavon Shields

Sergej Vucetic

Terran Petteway

Walt Pitchford

Deverell Biggs

Denotes redshirts/transfers who sat out.

2013 Recruits Tim Miles signed in the fall of 2012:

Tai Webster

Nick Fuller

Nathan Hawkins

2013 Recruits Tim Miles signed in spring 2013:

Leslee Smith

Notes:  No off-season transfers in or out following the 2013 season.

Exam Questions:

1.  How long did Tim Miles have to put together his first November recruiting class?

2.  What were the roster areas of need for the 2013 recruiting class and how were those needs met?

3.  Identify three effects of industrialization in 19th Century North America.

4.  If a high school player signed a letter of intent in November 2012, in what year(s) of eligibility would that player now be?

5.  What current roster deficiencies exist for the Nebraska Cornhusker men's basketball team?  Describe at what points in time those deficiencies would have needed to have been identified and addressed in order for players addressing those deficiencies to be eligible to compete in the 2014-2015 basketball season.

6.  What were the effects of "détente" on American foreign policy in the 1970s?

7.  Discuss the Viet Nam conflict within a Clauswitzian framework of the philosophy of war.

No takers?  You can even skip the détente question.

Bonus Question.

How much did NU pay Incarnate Word to play here last night?

A.  40K

B.  60K

C  100K

D  50% of the gate.

I'll take "Negative publicity on a national sports network" for 1,000, Alex Trebek.

If we would have given Miles a raise last year it would have been in probably every single article written on Thursday. That's a fairly compelling reason to not give a guy who possibly deserved it even a token raise in the 2nd year of a 7 year contract...not because he doesn't deserve it but because it's potentially not worth the grief if you happen to stumble.

This is all hearsay. That being said, this summer I heard the university was prepared to extend and raise Miles and Miles basically said no thank you because he felt he had what was needed to

parlay the next 1-2 years into an even bigger deal. I think it's only a matter of time before the university gives him a ridiculous contract that essentially keeps him here forever. So I guess if there's any truth to what I heard, it wasn't a calculated move by the U to avoid grief from a potential slow start by not raising Miles. The University was willing.
