Player to Watch

Xavier Rathan-Mayes: The Top-40 recruit had to sit out last year due to eligibility issues. With two starters injured Rathan-Mayes has led the Seminoles in scoring the last 3 games. He scored 27 points including hitting 5-5 from 3 pt range vs the Citadel.

The Skinny

Florida State has struggled this year, dropping games to three good but not great teams in UMass, Providence, and Northeastern. The Seminoles are also without starting guards Aaron Thomas and Devon Bookert, who happen to be their best 3 pt shooters. The book on FSU is to pack the paint and dare them to beat you outside which happens to be the defensive philosophy of the Huskers. This has all the makings of a very winnable road game for Nebraska.

However, a depleted FSU roster is still going to be a challenge for a Husker team that is 5-19 in true road games in the Tim Miles era. The Huskers also aren't a great outside shooting team and have been turning the ball over...two things that play to Florida State's strengths. The Seminoles will struggle to score so gifting them points on the road ultimately could gift them the game.

Both teams draw a lot of contact and make their living at the FT line so how tightly this game is officiated will be a major factor in this game. Wild card Karl Hess is running this crew and his squad called 65 fouls the last time they were in Tallahassee. Hopefully King Karl will keep out of the spotlight on this one.
Prediction: Nebraska 64 - FSU 60

FSU hoops message board?

https://floridastate.rivals.com/forum.asp?sid=1061&fid=1080&style=2

I can't seem to find anything else out there that even remotely resembles hoops discussions...and even their dedicated "hoops forum" doesn't have a thread about this game.

I mean, this is the Big Ten/ACC Challenge.  You'd think there'd be *someone* in Tallahassee that cares...
