2016 recruits

I actually think that the staff are moving on to concentrating on the 2016 class so we may as well also. Take note that a lot of the west coast recruits might not be as interested in us now because Sunny Smallwood was the contact with most of these players and as you know Coach Sunny has moved on to Boise. I think coach Shimmy is doing her best to keep in touch with the recruits Coach Sunny had interested in the Big Red when she left but no doubt that interest may have waned with Coach Sunny's departure.

The following is what we have so far. I will make the necessary changes in the list when the time warrants. Everyone is encouraged to participate as the list grows or vise versa.

Are there any potential Nebraska girls that the coaching staff might have interest in?

As of now I haven't heard of any for this class anyway, but then it's really early for this class. I'm guessing the coaching staff is still evaluating this group of kids. We'll probably know more next fall as the season progresses.

The Huskers have offered Kathleen Doyle 5'9 point guard from Benet Academy High School in Lisle IL. She also has offers DePaul, Toledo, Marquette & Dayton.

1591229-poster.jpg?1404756467

She is able to consistently beat her defender by setting them up with her handles. If you think she’s going right, she will probably cross you over and go left. Nasty hesitation dribble and a quick first step also help her to get into the lane with consistency. Once in the lane, she has mastered pulling up on a dime and elevating above the defense for the short mid-range jumper. Has both the skill set and intangibles to be great. No ones stock in the Midwest 2016 class has risen more than Doyle’s over the past several months.

Row6 is dabomb!

just from what i have read about the new coach (stollings) at minny, i believe she will do a better job at keeping minny players at home than pam borton did. just think it will be really tough for coach yori to pull a gal from minny. i know it's a bit off topic, but, i will go on record right now and say minny has a very good shot at being a beast on the offensive side of the ball this season. if stollings can get them to play some good defense, they will be top 5 in big ten. they will have Z-B, Banham, and the transfer from old dominion, i believe. if carly wagner adjusts to college game quickly they will probably have one of their highest scoring teams in awhile.

Norm, from what I remember Crete used to have a couple of kids that looked similar the Doyal girl above. Legend has it they played there for a while and then... poof... they just disappeared. Some say they were seen a few years later in southeast Lincoln. Rumor has it one was spotted running with a wolfpack in North Carolina and another was seen in eastern Iowa a year or so ago.

Been hearing reports that the Huskers have offered 6'3 power forward GiGi Garcia (2016) out of C K McClatchy High School in Sacramento CA. She also has received a Utah offer and is getting interest from Washington, Oregon, Oregon St, UCLA and Dayton. Not much information to be found yet, but as a sophomore she averaged 11 points and 7 rebounds and 2 blocks per game. She's seen below driving around Arizona St recruit Ayanna Edwards. She's the daughter of Aaron Garcia a 19 year qb veteran of the arena football league.

It's one thing to land a top 10 player who grew up in your backyard.  It's another thing entirely to land a top 10 player who is from the opposite end of a different state.  In order to continue climbing that ol' ladder, though, you have to keep bringing in top talent. I'm blown away that Connie is in the running for a top 10 kid who isn't from Nebraska, and I just look back with wonder at what she started with when she got here.  She has built a program basically from scratch and it wouldn't surprise me in the least to see her team playing in the Elite 8 within the next 3 years.  Hell, I'll say this:  If the lady Huskers had had Jessica Shepard last year, they might have made it already.

Emerald City Basketball Academy is reporting that Mikayla Pivec has received an offer from Nebraska plus Washington, Oregon St, Eastern Washington, and Seattle U.

If versatility in a guard is your thing you need to take note of this talented guard from the northwest.  Good size, deceiving strength and a focused attack make Mikayla Pivec an asset in any line-up.  She’s constantly in motion and has a good understanding of court concepts as well.  Pivec is almost methodical on the drive but effective none the less in getting into the paint where she has both a pull up and a floater to call upon.  The ability to spot up with range adds to her attack and creates options from penetration off the tight close out.  Her footspeed is sound but not the first thing you’re going to notice.  At the same time she has a clear understanding of her spacing on defense and has good awareness off the ball.
