Per 1620 a couple days ago, Dwight Smith has his choices narrowed to two small schools..,Northern Colorado and somebody else. Not sure why people keep bringing him up as an option, unless he agrees to walkon

because if we have no other option, we can give him a scholarship instead of letting it go to waste.

That being said, Dwight Smith wouldn't play much more than mike peltz did.

Exactly. At the very least he'd make a good practice player and someone who could play spot minutes for us.

And I'm sure he's a much better player than Peltz.

I'm not sure Dwight Smith is even an option.  He is down to N Dak St, N Colorado and Furman as to where he is going.

Perhaps not, but any one-and-done senior is better than an empty schollie IMO.

bb73 said it better than I did: The Dwight Smith option has sailed.  He isn't coming here.

Unless people are actually suggesting we give a one-year scholarship to a kid who is otherwise going to NDSU, N Colorado or Furman?  And in 3 years at CSU, as a shooting guard has averaged a collective 3.5 PPG and shot 28% from 3-pt range.

We can, and should, do much better than that.  If he wasn't a Nebraska native people would lose their damn minds at the idea.  I'm okay with leaving the scholie open, or actually finding an immediately eligible player that we think can help us...which I don't think is Smith.

I don't hate the kid, but I just don't see the appeal or how he fits to what we are trying to become here.

People said the same stuff about Petteway.  Just sayin.  Bring D Smith in here and he goes off for 18 ppg next year, you'll be looking pretty foolish.  Just sayin.

I think you're looking at this from a strange perspective. It's rather simple: Having a warm body who can be a quality practice player is better than an unused scholarship. There is absolutely zero downside in bringing in Smith (or a player of that ilk).

I don't think anyone is suggesting that he's a difference-maker, only that it's simple math: 1>0.

I didn't mean by my post that Smith shouldn't come here, but that I don't think he is an option as his final 3 is those schools I listed.  I'm not sure how much interest there was by either side here.

I'll say it.  Smith shouldn't come here.  If we wind up with an open spot, give the 'ship to Kye Kurkowski for a year.  He'll have contributed more to this program in a career than Smith will in a year.

If we can't find a senior transfer who can truly add something to the mix this season, then leave the spot open.  Don't bring someone in just for the sake of filling out the roster if that guy isn't likely to see the floor for any meaningful minutes next year.

Regular transfers are another matter, however.

Caleb Walker and Myles Holley contributed a lot more than an empty seat.

Sign him and align that athleticism with skills, Tim.

Myles Holley did? Are you kidding me? Other than some spectacular dunks against 250+ RPI teams at garbage time, he did virtually nothing prior to transferring. Now, that has nothing to do with whether we sign Gregory, a subject to which I defer to the coaches, but in the interest of historical accuracy....

Myles Holley- 3.4ppg

Empty seat- 0.0ppg

Myles also struggled with injuries before, during, and after Nebraska.  One of Doc's classic "Oh his knee's will recover" additions.
