Moses Ayegba is N

Recommended Posts

'Bout damn time.  Took him long enough.  Mom flies all the way from Ni-frickin-geria for him to commit and he holds off?  If I was his mom, I'd beat his ass for that.  Kid, I flew all the way from Ni-frickin-geria and you gonna think about it?  This here nice man gonna offer you a scholarship to start on your masters' degree and play basketball and you gots to think about it?  You better sign your name on that dotted line right now, son, or we're about to have a problem.  Mm'hmm, that's right.

Robin mentioned the other day the hold up was more due to making sure he will for sure graduate.

I wasn't actually being serious.  Just having fun with the idea that his mom might have flown out here if he hadn't had his mind pretty well made up by that point.

#BOOOOOOOOOM!!!

A Nebraska basketball team that is expected to do big things this next season and is already being ranked #17 in some way too early preseason polls just got even more dangerous. One of the weaknesses Nebraska had last season was a lack of a serious post presence. They addressed that concern.

The addition of Moses Ayegba is HUGE for multiple reasons. He was a 4-Star Rivals150 prospect coming out of high school and has a 7'-4" wingspan, so he is that rim protector that Nebraska has desperately needed. But, perhaps equally as important, he will be able to play the 5-spot, so that Pitchford can move over to the 4-spot (which is his more natural position). I believe we will see Pitchford make a big jump next season because of this, because he won't be asked to play out of position.

Nebraska will not be undersized next season. In fact, they will be just the opposite:

Starting Lineup:

1- Webster (6' 3")

2- Petteway (6' 6")

3- Shields (6' 7")

4- Pitchford (6' 10")

5- Ayegba (6' 9")

Interesting nugget from BR...

Ayegba said his relationship with Hunter played a key role in him coming to Nebraska. Indiana, Boston College, Miami and Long Beach State also showed interest in Ayegba as a transfer, he said.

NU is the clearly the best team on that list right now - and I'm sure that Indiana student who was commenting at the end of last season's game would agree with me.  :P

This is the kind of news that makes the early alarm clock worth it! Great roster management by Coach - even if he only gives us 10-15 min per game next season, between he and Smith and Hammond, it allows Walt to play almost exclusively at the 4. Plus frees up another scholarship for a 2015 class that could be pretty impressive.

And Ayegba gets to play in a B1G time conference, rather than a league that's a shadow of its former self, and he gets to go back to the NCAAs in his final season. Win-win all the way around!  B)

He wanted to wait to announce until after Georgetown's banquet.

So . . . Ayegba must have received confirmation of good news on the Aca-frickin-demic front.

And the first "odd piece" falls in place. Here is an odd fact to go with it. Nebraska exports the largest portion of it's red wheat crop to Nigeria. Perhaps he came to savor the wheat.

Sounds like that could be on the front of our next T-shirt, Jimmy. "Savor the Wheat".

Hi everybody...long time anonymous browser of this great site but finally decided to register and participate.

I wanted to chime in Moses' height...my son and I happened to be walking into the Spring Game right behind Coach Miles, Terran Petteway, and Moses.  Standing side by side flat-footed, Moses was barely taller than Terran.  I'm guessing 6'-7" at most.  I see him listed as 6'-9" in places and considered a center...and due to his wingspan and skillset that's probably what he'll play...but I think people should be prepared for the fact he's not overly tall.  That doesn't mean he isn't a great pickup or won't do everything we need him to, but I had to do a double-take. (or maybe Terran is even taller than I realized!)

On that note...I sometimes think that "height" is overrated.  I look at Edward Morrow's videos and even though he's listed on the shorter side, his long arms turn him into an inside force.  Truly, watching him inside dunk with seemingly no effort, not requiring great leaping ability...he plays much longer than his listed height.  I believe Moses will be the same.

Great finally interacting with you fellow true NU believers.  Been a fan and season ticket holder since Iba.

You do mention it here and I think it's important. More important than the height the top of his head reaches when flat-footed. Wingspan. It was reported at nearly 7'4". That's huge.

FWIW, Leslee Smith isn't really as tall as he's listed and most other players aren't either. They all lie.

Welcome.
