I am tiring over the belief that a player chooses School A or School B due to School A has better facilities.  Granted, athletes never want to play in bad conditions (and nothing is worse than what the Oakland Raiders and Athletics have to endure), but facilities are just an added bonus.  Kids look at four main criteria when choosing schools (in no particular order): (1) ability to win now; (2) potential teammates; (3) education; and (4) coach.  Normally you only see facilities come into the picture when criteria 1-4 have already been addressed.

A perfect example would be Vanderbilt.  While Vandy is not consistently vying for a national championship, it still brings in quality talent despite otherwise questionable facilities (note Vanderbilt got rid of its Athletic Department years ago).  In the last ten years, Vandy has brought in 1 Rivals 5* kid and numerous 4* kids.

Nebraska needs a few years contending for at large berths first.  At that point we will see some strong returns.

In all seriousness, apparel affiliation may be more important than facilities.  Kids love their Nikes. How many high school kids brag about their high school's gym?  Compared to how many brag about their gear?

It's not a big deal for schools like Kansas and Louisville that have a ton of tradition and put lots of players into the NBA and have legendary coaches.  But for schools like us that don't have those things, it's another strike against us.

But they will choose School A or School B if the shoes they wear have a particular kind of swoosh decoration on them.

If that was true then Marcus Jordan, Michael Jordan's son, would have never gone to Central Florida.

Sarcasm? UCF promised Marcus he could wear Jordans and then dropped adidas for Nike.

Well, they are just putting the finishing touches on this. It looks pretty spiffy. Not sure it's up to the Hendricks level, but it's pretty nice.

Keep in mind, other schools will catch up in facilities to Nebraska. We're on top for only so long. It's a perpetual arms race. Just because we might be now, doesn't mean we will be two years from now.

As see it, NU has the better practice facility, CU the better arena.

Couldn't disagree more. PBA is much nicer than Century Link; the Railyard area also trumps the area right around Century Link. Other than a couple thousand more really crappy seats, I have no idea how Century Link could be considered the better arena.

As someone who is going through the job search process, it's not so much that School A has better facilities than school B, it's that not having the facilities allows the recruit an easy excuse to move on, much like, a gap in my resume or a missing qualification, makes it easy for an employer to move on from a potential employee. Ultimately, it might not be the biggest factor, but it is part of the equation and if you can't offer it at all and the rest of your competitors can, it's difficult to compete.
