Anyone concerned that Tai decides to take the money and run back to New Zealand to play pro hoops?

Concerned? No. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if he did so. I'm not sold he will ever be a Big Ten type player we need. This year, he was absolute disappointing. It's hard to look at his game logs. Over hyped is putting it lightly. So no, not concerned. But I have heard rumors he wouldn't make it past this year.

I've heard the exact opposite.

I wish the mods would tag your post to the top for the next 3 years so we can all look back at it in 2-3 years.  You have had an unhealthy obsession with bashing Tai all year, so I guess you may as well go out with a bang.

As I said in another thread, I have heard the coaches changed Tai's shooting form after he arrived on campus.  They knew it would throw him off this year but are hoping it will give him a headstart on the future years.

Maybe he never will pan out.  But if he is hopeless, then I fear for the future of Hawkins and Fuller who couldn't even crack the lineup all year.  I guess we should just throw them out as well.  I guess I am just not ready to give up on any of them, and definitely not Tai.

Let's tag this post a year from now.  I predict it will look as wise as those bemoaning the demise of Shavon earlier this year.  JMO.

This game exposed some weaknesses on our team that need to be addressed. We need to have more of post presence or at least more depth. It would have been great to see how this team would look with both Smith and Pitchford in the game at the same time. Our lack of depth prevents this. There are some stats that the refs don't control like rebound differential and points in the paint. Baylor absolutely owned us in these 2 areas.

We also need to have true point guard. Someone who can run the offense and be at lease somewhat of scoring threat. Benny is has developed into a good defensive specialists but he is lacking ability to distribute the ball. Tai is playing out of position and I'd like to see him become more aggressive offensively.

We had more points in the paint than Baylor did.  They had more post play, though.

Unless they are terrible shooters, I think it is un-wise to mess with college players' shooting form.

The most important aspects of shooting are confidence, rhythm, and focusing on the target (the rim). Changing shooting form causes players to think too much about the mechanics of the shot instead of the target itself.  As long as you have a consistent release and the ball goes in a decent percent of the time, that's what really matters.  Tai shot 62% during the Olympic trials - leave his form alone.

We were + 8 in points in the paint.  They were only +8 in 2nd chance points.

Please do! While we are at it please go back to the old site and post all my messages regarding Doc never amounting to much....which I was bashed for. Tai may turn out to be a capable player but I'm afraid he will never live up to the top 25 player many thought he was. Pin it!!! I've been wrong in the past, I would have bet my life savings on this team not winning 11 Big Ten games. Id be glad to be wrong again. But right now, Tai is a bad basketball player. I can go over the game logs with you if you want. You may cringe though.

Pretty par for the course for that poster. His player evaluation skills are so sharp that he knows that a true freshman will not pan out...ever. He realizes that we are in such a great position as a basketball program that we can afford to to toss off basketball players like Alabama tosses off football players. So very typical.

Stop it. Please, just stop it. Whatever rumors that you are buying into are invalid. Tai isn't going anywhere. He will be fine.

I'm not disputing he's in a slump.  I just personally am not ready to throw him away.  We have a year invested in him.  He has a Big Ten frame.  He can drive to the hoop.  It doesn't matter if anyone let their expectations get out of control and thought he was going to be a top 25 player.  He didn't need to be.

He has to get better.  I think he will develop.  You think this is as good as he gets.  We'll see.

Sorry you can't handle the truth. To put it lightly, Tai was te biggest dissapointment of the year. Right now there is not one thing he does well. I have no problem calling out bad play when I see it...and for the majority of the year Webster was well...bad. If you think he's going to live up to his hype..great, I hope you're correct. I have serious reservations that he will ever live up to the player we thought he would be. His attitude needs help along with his game.

For the 1st time all year, noticed that Pitch & Smith did go into the game together for a while in the 2nd half, which is probably not the best time to experiment with the big lineup when Walt & Leslee hadn't been used together all season.  In the 2nd half of an NCAA tourney game that could have been tight if NU had attacked more early & often.

But, really, I think it boils down to if you're going to go to that big lineup, the least NU could have done was to have gone to the bigger lineup early on in the 1st half when Jefferson & Austin were wreaking havoc in the post offensively & defensively. It felt a bit of a 'too little too late' to change the post situation in the last game of the year, perhaps that was on Coach Smith to do something different than Coach Miles would have done.

They out rebounded us 37-25 and more than doubled us up on offensive rebounds. Austin and Gathers owned the paint. Yes we did out score them inside but that was dribble drive. We had no answer for their post presence with them practically being able to score at will. Scott Drew would have been wise to run the ball through his posts more. This was my point, although I didn't do a very good job of getting that point across in my post.

I'm not saying throw him away. I just wouldn't be concerned if he decided to move on. I fully expect him to get better...it will be hard not to. But he has a lot to work on that's for sure. Especially if the long term plan is to move him to the 2.

We need a guy who can guard a post player like Jefferson straight up, without always having to rely on double team help. We really let Jefferson and Austin catch the ball in areas too close to the hoop. They needed to push them out a bit or at least front and sag on the back side.

Maybe Hammonds can be that defensive post presence in a few years. I would hope that anybody we add between now and signing day meets that need. Perhaps a 5th year transfer? Icing on the cake would be if that person could be a legit threat scoring with his back to the basket. Other than that, other immediate needs: 1) a knock-down 3-pt. shooter and 2) a true point guard who is at least a threat to score from 15-18 feet. Maybe Fuller is the knock-down shooter? Who knows. I would love it if we got the post player and one of the other two needs. Nevertheless, this year provided me with some great memories, especially taking my son to the games. Can't put a price on that.

What did you have to say about Benny Parker last year?

One thing I wanna say is Walt needs to man the fugg up. Watching him get physically abused by baylors posts over and over again was disgusting. And the fact that he has no offense capabilities other than shooting 3s is mind boggling. :vent over:

He's not the player he's forced to be.

FWIW Defense of March Walt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Nov Walt

No fan wants to watch a whistle-fest.  I hate it when the game becomes about foul shots.  Even at the end of a game when a team is trying to foul.  The way this game was officiated bugs the ever-living piss out of me.  We were typically the aggressors going to the basket.  That almost always means we would draw more fouls.  The officiating was just brutal today.  Yeah, we didn't play particularly well, but part of that was that there was never any flow to the game because the refs kept trying to be the main event.  I can stand losing but it leaves me with a sick feeling when you don't have a level playing field.

WORD. preach it brotha
