The Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant, announced six of the eight-team field for the 2013 Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant, to be held next November, at TD Arena in Charleston, S.C. Dates for the tournament will be announced at a later date.

The teams participating in the sixth annual event include UAB, Clemson, Georgia, Nebraska, New Mexico and Temple. No matter which of the teams Nebraska faces, it would be a rare matchup, as Nebraska’s four meetings with UAB are the most among any of the five potential opponents announced today. NU has played New Mexico (2009 NIT) and Temple (1936-37 season) only once and has never faced Clemson on the basketball court. Nebraska is 1-1 all-time against Georgia and 2-2 against UAB.

A seventh and eighth team will be announced later. The Charleston Classic is the first of three ESPN-sponsored events that the Nebraska basketball program will play in beginning in 2013-14. Nebraska’s last appearance in an ESPN-sponsored tournament was the 2011 Puerto Rico Tipoff.

The 2013 Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant will feature a bracket format with 12 games over three days. Each team will compete in one game per day, advancing through the bracket. The two teams that remain undefeated throughout will face off in a championship game on the final day of competition.

The Southern Conference (SoCon) will again serve as the event’s sponsoring conference, making its sixth straight year.

Past winners of the Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant are Northwestern, Georgetown, Miami (Fla.) and Clemson.

This family-friendly tournament offers the teams a week of practice, play and experiences in and around historic Charleston.

Additional information, including travel packages, can be found on the Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant Web site at www.charlestonclassic.com.

The Charleston Classic presented by Foster Grant is owned and operated by ESPN Regional Television (ERT), a subsidiary of ESPN.

So was Doc against these tourneys? I don't remember us playing in as many the last couple years...or is it just my memory?

We have certainly been in a few tournaments in recent history. It just hasn't had as much hype as it does now in the media for Nebraska basketball.

Under Doc:

2006-2007: Rainbow Classic; Orange Bowl Classic

2009-2010: Las Vegas Classic

2010-2011: Puerto Rico Tip-Off
