The Jaguars led by a many as 11 in the first half only to see Iowa State take a 2 point lead into the half and take control of the game with a 25-11 run to open up the second half. Southern was led by senior guard Derick Beltran who had a game high 26 points on 10-21 shooting to go along with 3 rebounds and 3 steals. Malcom Miller came off the bench to add 10 points and 6 rebounds for the Jaguars. Iowa State dominated the boards (59-33) while holding the Jaguars to 30.3% shooting Southern and Nebraska both played Alcorn State last season. Nebraska defeated Alcorn State 60-46 in Lincoln, while Southern split the season series, defeating Alcorn State 65-54 at home, and falling 60-40 on the road.
