conference previews

The following is a wbb B1G conference preview from the Journal Carrier in Lafayette IN. I put his Nebraska preview on here along with the Northwestern preview because we play them tomorrow and it's Noah's other team.

The Big Ten women’s basketball season starts Thursday, including No. 17 Purdue visiting Ohio State.

The top three teams in the preseason media and coaches polls — Nebraska, Penn State and Michigan State — remain contenders, but Iowa and the Boilermakers have joined the conversation after the non-conference season.

NEBRASKA

Current record: 10-2

Best non-conference RPI win: UCLA (26)

Player to watch: Jordan Hooper (6-2, senior, 20.7 points, 10.8 rebounds, 25 3-pointers)

2012-13 Big Ten finish: 2nd

What we know: Rachel Theriot isn’t Lindsay Moore, but the sophomore has taken over the point guard duties without major difficulties.

What we don’t know: Will playing only two road games prepare the Huskers for Big Ten competition?

NORTHWESTERN

Current record: 10-3

Best non-conference RPI win: DePaul (39)

Player to watch: Maggie Lyon (6-1, sophomore, 13.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, 27 3-pointers)

2012-13 Big Ten finish: 10th

What we know: Coach Joe McKeown features two of the league’s top freshmen in Nia Coffey and Christen Inman, both of whom are averaging in double figures.

What we don’t know: How will the Wildcats respond in Big Ten play without the experience of junior point guard Karly Roser, who suffered an upper body injury before the season?

You probably won't hear too much of the RPI and strength of schedule "sos" coming from huskers.com as it doesn't look good for the Huskers now especially the sos. But the Huskers are heading into league play and both the rpi and sos are bound to improve. (knock on wood)  Anyway, the following link shows where we stack up with the rest of the conference as we begin B1G play.
