Shavon's problem is that he's not extremely explosive or super-athletic, so he struggles to finish around the rim against superior athletes. He's going to have to develop a much better jump shot in my opinion because a player like him who lacks elite athletic ability is going to have to make his living more with his shooting than by getting to the rim.

Shavon doesn't finish explosively because he's limited athletically, so he ends up getting a lot of shots blocked.

It was really frustrating watching us shut down Kilpatrick but letting him get bailed out by fouls. Check out his stat line:

2-13 fgm-a

0-5 3pm-a

17-18 ftm-a

21 points

This. And if you watched his feet he got away with at least 12 travels. At least the commentators realized and admitted that Kilpatrick was "getting the Kobe/Lebron treatment."

We are actually two big men short with all due respect to Coach Miles.

We also need another shooter to fill Ray's slot and a point guard that also has the ability to score.  I'm not giving up on Webster, but Biggs is not a point guard and Parker only gives us defense in the certain situations (got burned off the dribble too much today).

Not sure I even saw Rivers on the bench today. Was he there? What is the deal? He had some pretty good games last year. Play the kid.

The comment Miles made a couple games ago was that Rivers was just the 3rd in line behind Pitchford and Smith. Well...we should've seen him today then. Pitchford was useless and with Smith hitting 3 fouls and needing a blow in the 2nd half one could argue to throw Rivers in there as a change up. See if he could be a nuisance for the Cincy bigs since we couldn't stop them anyway.

This.  Shavon has a limited ceiling due to his lack of athleticism, so he is going to have to develop other parts of his game.  Use of his left hand around the rim would be a great start and junking the set shot in favor of a jump shot wouldn't hurt either.

At least Rivers will rebound.

Rivers is the biggest head scratcher in a long time.

Hard to think he can't help in some way.

Yep...I always liked David as a role player.  He seemed to do many of the little things that others sometimes struggle with.  To go from being a starter to seeing no floor time is a bit weird to say the least.

Actually, it was Rivers lack of rebounding that got him benched, at least accordingly to Miles.  Miles said they chart rebounding, and Rivers only averages about 1 rebound per 11 minutes played (or something like that).  MIles said that was the lowest of the any of the "bigs" and is an unacceptably low amount of production for him to play.

Ok. So maybe now that he's been benched several games he could be given the chance to go in and see if he can hack it now? I mean, what really happened to David? Did he forget how to play? I know he doesn't bring a lot to the table offensively but from what he was able to do last season, he could be that glue guy, a role player to do some of the smaller things that we need right now. Someone please tell me if I'm exaggerating but I remember a David from the B1G season last year that played pretty solid defense, provided a spark at that end at times, took and hit the midrange jumper when the opportunity presented itself, and rebounded quite well. Against B1G competition, down the stretch of our schedule last year. I remember several putback dunks, the kind of plays to electrify the team. Plays that would be very useful now. I trust Miles to know whether he can be counted on to perform or not, but seriously David, what happened?

My friend texted me that he didn't travel (my friend was at the game).  Yikes.

I was at the game and David was there. He had his hair different (French braided?) but was definitely right there on the bench, like usual this season apparently. Kinda wish he would have gotten in for a few minutes...not sure what it would have hurt to at least try something different when two of your main guys are having such an off day (and I get that Miles wasn't happy with his output for a while, but I have to think he's served his time and with the usual suspects coming up mostly empty and us starting to mouth-breathe in the second half, it seems like a logical time to throw something new at the wall), but I'm certainly not the coach so what do I know.
