NU is looking at a transfer from Missouri (which I think most of us knew) and now one that is leaving Wichita State as well.

Sounds like #Nebrasketball is also interested in former Wichita St commit Deontae Hawkins, a 2013 3-star PF from Ohio.

#Nebrasketball has officially offered former Missouri 2013 PG commit Travis Jorgensen of New Hampton (N.H.) Prep. Ranked 137 in Rivals150.

This Hawkins kid is an interesting one. From what I can ascertain, he was originally committed to Wichita State last year for the 2012 recruiting class and decided to enroll in Prep School instead of going to college (in hopes of getting some major offers, it appears.)

Follow this link: http://tripledoubleprospects.com/2011/11/16/deontae-hawkins-pulls-a-shocker/

This is what they were saying about him last year:

In what is quickly becoming a new position in college basketball Hawkins was recruited to play what college coaches are calling the “stretch 4″; meaning that he is like a 4th guard on the court just with size to defend and rebound against opposing big men. That role, and the opportunity to take it over early, was the most important thing in Hawkins recruitment. “I wanted to find somewhere that I can play right away and Wichita State offered me that. Coach said that I have a really good chance to come in and start as a 3/4 my freshman year”, Teddy told Triple Double Prospects.

Hawkins fits that role to perfection as he is a true 6’7, with a near 7’0 wingspan, and has solid athleticism in both running the floor and getting off the ground. Although he is thin he has a great finesse skillset that allows him to score from 15 feet and in but he is even more comfortable playing out on the wing; where is one of the best three point shooters in the state.

I'm diggin it.

A year ago, they called him a true 6-7. Now, he's being listed at 6-8 and 220#. According to one message board discussion I found from last year (http://www.mvcfans.c....php?f=6&t=1454) they said he had been on the Rivals top 150 for 2012 before dropping out after the last revision -- but still very high and close to that list.

Good perimeter shooter. Good athleticism. Nearly 7' wingspan. I can dig it.

Here's another blurb from another article:

Hawkins had a long list of high-major offers before committing to Wichita State, including Alabama, Auburn, Tennessee, DePaul, Miami, Cincinnati, and Georgia.

As a senior at Dunbar (Ohio), he averaged 17.3 points per game for a team that finished 28-0 and claimed the Ohio Division II state title.

Article says Hawkins was ruled ineligible by the NCAA and so enrolled in prep school for a year. Linky: http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2012/08/18/wichita-state-signee-teddy-hawkins-ruled-ineligible-by-ncaa-will-take-prep-year/

From what I've read so far, this kid sounds like the most interesting prospect since Akoy Agau committed to Louisville and Vitto Brown to Wisconsin. "Teddy" was ruled ineligible just before school started in August this year. When he was being recruited last fall for the 2012 class, he had some high major offers before deciding on Wichita State.

From what I've read, one of the big reasons he chose WSU was the opportunity to jump in right away and get playing time. In other words, he's looking for a place with a really shallow bench. Hmmmm. There is such a school that comes immediately to mind. And we're not far from where he's attending prep school (eastern Iowa.) Let's get a visit. 6-8 and 220#. 7 ft wingspan. Good 3-pt shooter. That makes for a veeeerrrrrry interesting prospect. And a nice way to finish out this class.

Along with the PG who decommited from ISU.

It's game video so you don't see just Hawkins. But it's highlights of the game and there's commentary rather than, like, rap music. It's one guy interviewing another guy who was there watching the game. At about the 6 min mark of the video, the guy being interviewed starts talking about Hawkins and saying he's really impressed with him. Going to WSU. Stands 6-8 but plays even taller than that. Good shooter, good ball handler. Really impressive performance. Scored 22 pts. His teammate, the PG, Yates, was committed to Creighton. Perhaps that's one reason he's looking here. Who knows? I'd like this kid to visit. Seems like a really intriguing prospect.

I'm not gonna pretend to know more about these guys than our coaching staff, all I want is a power forward in the 2013 class. I trust this coaching staff will find a good player.
