Maybe I'm out of touch

Lotsa questions

  1. 1. For us old farts, do you think we'd have reacted this negatively to a tunnel walk song in the 80s by, say, Elvis?

    • I'm a kid and you blue hairs (and no hairs) are totes totes cray cray. Bon Jovi? I'm, like, whatevs.

    • I'm an old fart and I don't think an Elvis intro would have bothered me like these kids these days whining about Jon Bon Whoosits.

    • I'm an old fart and these kids these days have no idea what good music really is. Bon Jovi RULES!

    • I'm a kid and I'm down with Bon Jovi. Or David Archuleta. Either way.

    • Yes, we would have been pissed if they'd hauled at an aging rocker like Mick Jagger to do an intro for us back in the day.

  2. 2. For the kids, would you rather we had an intro by ... (pick as many as you'd like)

    • Katrina and the Waves?

  3. 3. For the old farts, is Rap and hip hop really all that bad?

    • Good gawd yes!

    • Every time I hear it I feel as though my ears have been violated.

    • I can put up with a lot from Marc Boehm, but if he does a basketball intro set to rap "music" I'll have his head. On a pike.

Whats the point of doing a poll for rap music if every response is negative?

As far as the Elvis question, comparing Elvis to Bon Jovi is like comparing 2Pac to Puff Daddy.

No.  Actually, comparing 2Pac to Puff Daddy is like comparing Quantum Physics with Myasthenia Gravis.

(I've heard of both but I don't really know anything about either.)

Haha, sorry.  Elvis is good, Bon Jovi Bad.

Not seeing a lot of Elvis tunes that would seem to work. Consider this list:

Blue Suede Shoes (Huskers wear red)

Heartbreak Hotel -- maybe for the other team?

Don't Be Cruel -- would that be begging?

Too Much

All Shook Up

Teddy Bear

Jailhouse Rock -- not quite on point

A Big Hunk o' Love (maybe if Elbert were around)

Are You Lonesome Tonight

Surrender -- not a good vibe

Return to Sender

If I Can Dream

Moody Blue

I don't know . . . just don't seem to be quite right.

Oh, OK.  I thought you were getting at Elvis is dead and Bon Jovi is alive.  But that didn't make much sense.

Sometimes you need to dig just a little bit deeper..... :)

Bon Jovi was fine in his day. The problem I have with the music picks and the intro is the they lean very heavily on mostly bad 70s 80s rock and overlook tons of killer songs that come out every year. There are 10 songs from the last two years that would make for unique, amazing intros.

Could you list them for the forum.

Here's a really far out suggestion. How about asking the players for a few suggestions about what might pump them up for intros? I'm betting Bon Jovi will not make their short list.

From what we have been told Bon Jovi will not be used for the intros.

Has anyone suggested asking what the players themselves would like to hear yet?

I bet Bon Jovi wouldn't make their list.

They probably get input into the intros and other stuff.  Asking them to pick out the playlist for the entire night?  That seems somewhere between unfeasible and undesirable.

Athletes throughout the entire USA play sports to crappy and contrived music.

If it's not this Bon Jovi song chances are it will probably be something worse.

As long as we're not going to be the "Bon Jovi presents the Nebraska Basketball" team it's going to be ok.

I can't believe what a touchy subject this is for people.  Yes, you could ask the players but you would probably get 12 different answers. Then what???  The players could vote to use some rap song that doesn't relate with anyone in the crowd over 25 years old?  Then what???  Anything they use has to be an upgrade from the crappy intro's we've used the past few years.  I didn't think the Bon Jovi intro was that bad during the scrimmage.  I'll leave it up to the powers to be to make the decision on what they want to use.  As long as they don't follow the same pattern as what they used at Devaney, I'll be happy.
