From Huskers.com:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Lincoln – The University of Nebraska Athletic Department invites fans to get their first look at the 2013-14 Huskers on Friday, Sept. 27, as the Nebraska men’s basketball program will hold an open scrimmage for the public inside Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Sept. 27 marks the first day programs around the country can practice for the upcoming season, and the Huskers will scrimmage from 7-8 p.m. at Pinnacle Bank Arena. The event is free and open to all fans, as the 2013-14 team will be introduced prior to the scrimmage, while Head Coach Tim Miles will provide live commentary throughout the event. All seating for the scrimmage is on a first-come, first-seated basis, and gates will open at 6 p.m. that evening.

In addition, Sports Nightly will broadcast live from Pinnacle Bank Arena during the event, while fans will be able to check out the new facility and concessions stands will be open throughout the evening. Following the event, the Huskers will hold a team autograph session.

The event will provide a chance to see Nebraska’s nine returning letterwinners, including starters Ray Gallegos, Shavon Shields and David Rivers, but it marks the Husker debut for a host of newcomers, including sophomores Terran Petteway and Walter Pitchford, who sat out last year because of transfer rules. In addition, fans can see Nebraska’s 2013 recruiting class, including junior college transfer Leslee Smith and freshmen Nick Fuller, Nathan Hawkins, Tai Webster and Tim Wagner. Nebraska’s other newcomer is junior college transfer Deverell Biggs, who redshirted during the 2012-13 campaign.

I usually shy away from the "who should be starting" threads but I really like this one. I'm not exactly sure why this would be different but here's mine.

Team 1

Biggs

Ray

Fuller

Rivers

Pitchford

subs

Benny

Jordan

Kye

Menke

Team 2

Tai

Hawkins

Petteway

Sheilds

Smith

subs

Peltz

Wagner

Serj

I have no rhyme or reason for these teams other than trying to fix in new guys with vets (for lack of a better term). I have no inside information, I have never seen some of these guys play in person. I just want to throw this out there.

First 5 to make free throws, next 5 take them on then winner stays on and a few group takes picks to see who is ready for the next game.

Game to 15 by ones, 3 point shot counts 2. Call your own fouls, first group is shirts, next 5 are skins.

Just like when we played as kids.

They won't do the shirts/skins thing, but otherwise, this is my vote, too.

Some of my thoughts

  • Big men splits:  PItch and Smith play on opposite teams.  Smith is more likely to get winded so his backup is Surge.  This means Pitch gets Kye
  • Ball Handlers: Benny, Tai, Biggs, and Petteway split among both teams.
  • Forwards: Shields, Rivers, Petteway, Fuller split among team.  Seems natural to have Rivers on Petteway on opposite teams.
  • White gets Hawkins and Peltz in case you want to spell Benny with shooting or ball handler (and height)
  • Whatever team Ray is on gets to be the Red team.

If you were trying to divide for even teams, this is pretty good, but I'd suggest a change:

RED SQUAD:               WHITE SQUAD:

G - Deverell Biggs       G - Benny Parker

G - Ray Gallegos         G - Tai Webster

G - Shavon Shields       G - Terran Petteway

F - David Rivers         F - Nick Fuller

F - Walter Pitchford     F - Leslee Smith

Kye Kurkowski            Sergej Vucetic

Nathan Hawkins           Jordan Tyrance

Trevor Menke             Mike Peltz

                         Tim Wagner

What I've done is move Hawkins out of the White starting lineup and taken Fuller from the Red bench and put him in the White starting lineup as a forward instead and moved Petteway to guard.  If you wanted to make it more newcomers vs. vets, one additional change would be to flip-flop Biggs and Parker at the points, but then leave Pitchford and Smith to start against each other because that would be the most fair match-up of the big men.

I don't mean to be a grammar Nazi, but "scrimmage" is spelled incorrectly in the logo at the top of this thread and on the main page.

You should absolutely point stuff like that out.  :)

I'm surprised it took me as long as it did.  I love the graphic of Miles looking at himself!  It's freaking brilliant!

It's hard to argue with rules used at the old Men's P.E. building.
