Here's a look at next years B1G conference previews from various news services from across the Big Ten.

Penn State:

The Lady Lions will bring in seven freshmen next season, the largest recruiting class since Washington took over the program in April of 2007.

With three senior starters leaving, Washington said Lucas is the only starter that will return in a similar role next season. Washington expects expanded roles for Dara Taylor, who will take over at point guard for Bentley, and Ariel Edwards, the Lady Lions’ top reserve. Post players Talia East, Tori Waldner and Candice Agee are in line to replace Greene, who started a school-record 131 straight games. Five of the seven incoming freshmen can play at either forward or center

“We didn’t have to revamp things so much as we had to tweak things,” she said of the past three seasons. “Now with seven new players and four players with increased roles and responsibilities, it’s going to take us some time to figure out what people are good at, what their strengths are, how will they respond on game night, who’s going to be better at practice than they are in games, who’s going to be better in games than they are in practice and who works well together.

Nebraska:

Nebraska loses Moore, who started 132 games in her career, broke the school career assist record, was a strong scorer the past three years, and proved to be the glue to the new Husker basketball model. This season, NU lost sophomore Rebecca Woodberry because of disciplinary problems and Adrianna Maurer to season-ending back problems.

But after some ice and therapy, the Huskers will get Jordan Hooper back to chase a third All-Big Ten first-team honor and third NU-leading scoring season. After foot surgery, guard Rachel Theriot, an All-Big Ten freshman team pick, is expected to take over for Moore. Jeffery will have knee surgery, but is expected to give the Huskers a boost as well.

Add recruits Allie Havers, a 6-foot-5 forward from Michigan, and guards Hannah Tvrdy of Seward and Ester Ramacieri of Canada, and Nebraska looks ready to reload for its first season in Pinnacle Bank Arena

Michigan State:

The Michigan State women’s basketball coach endured a rough season with injuries, losing redshirt sophomore center Madison Williams (ACL), and freshmen guards Aerial Powers (Achilles) and Branndais Agee (ACL) for the season and others with illnesses and setbacks. That’s made one of her top offseason priorities to have a healthy team entering next season.

I want to get through a summer and make sure when we start in the fall that everyone’s healthy and maintain that. ”Williams, Powers and Agee are in the recovery stages from their injuries, while transfer junior guard Camille Glymph had knee surgery Friday and will be out three-to-six months. Sophomore center Jasmine Hines was bothered by a hamstring she tore last August all season and Merchant said she will need about 10 weeks of rest to let it heal.

Illinois:

In Year Two, Bollant’s squad will enter the season with high expectations after so much success in his first year at the helm. Illinois returns four rotation players that already have experience playing in Bollant’s fast-paced system. Even with battle-tested players returning, Bollant thinks one of the biggest contributors to the team next year will be a player that didn’t even appear in a game this season: sophomore guard Sarah Hartwell.

“Sarah Hartwell will be a really good player for us,” Bollant said of the Georgia Tech transfer. “Sarah is a dynamic point guard. Really fast with the basketball, really tight with the dribble, (she) can shoot it, can pass, can defend, and she’s gonna be a great player here.”

Though Illinois’ offense doesn’t have as catchy a name as its defense, Bollant plans to implement a motion offense next season. He said it would have taken too long to teach his team the motion this year. Bollant said the team will begin practicing the new offense this spring, and that it will give his team more options with less dribbling.

“There’s not a pattern to it,” Bollant said. “You’ll see way less dribbling in that motion offense than you saw this year. The ball will move a lot quicker, kids will learn how to move and screen and cut without the basketball in their hands. ... It wasn’t the best thing for this team, but that’s the first thing we’ll do when we start spring workouts is putting in a motion offense. We’ll be a more complete basketball team because of our motion offense, but it takes a long time to learn, takes a lot of attention.”

Michigan:

With a Michigan team so dependent on its seniors, Barnes Arico’s squad will be starting over next year, allowing her to put her stamp on the team.

Retaining only one starter, sophomore forward Nicole Elmblad, Barnes Arico will need help from her incoming freshmen class as well as huge contributions from freshman guard Madison Ristovski. Ristovski was expected to play a major role this season, but the success of the seniors put her on the bench.

Purdue:

By Purdue women’s basketball standards, three NCAA tournaments without advancing to the Sweet 16 is an eternity.

In fact, it’s been four years since the Boilermakers made an appearance in a regional semifinal when you factor in the season coach Sharon Versyp's team missed the NCAA tournament in 2010.

After being knocked out by South Carolina and Louisville the last two years, how does Versyp move the program past the first two rounds?

Iowa:

Bluder is excited about the new NCAA rule that allows coaches to work with their teams during the summer.

She said it will help get Disterhoft and Kastanek up to speed.

“I really think it’s going to be advantageous to the freshmen,” Bluder said. “They can now learn our offense, the basics of our defense, and actually implement it during the summer instead of waiting until next fall to learn it.”

Bluder said it won’t hurt for rest of the roster to get a refresher in June and July, too.

Then there's this little gem.

Iowa women’s coach Lisa Bluder said the league is discussing permanent opponents to help protect rivalries, but it’s unclear which school would be considered Iowa’s geographical rival. Nebraska is the likely choice, but rivalries in women’s basketball are somewhat nebulous.

Bluder said right now Purdue and Ohio State are Iowa’s primary rivals.

I guess why would you be a rival or even admit to being a rival with someone you can't beat?

Ohio St:

Kalpana Beach, a redshirt sophomore on the Ohio State women’s basketball team, reinjured her surgically repaired right knee and faces possible further surgery.

A starting forward for the Buckeyes as a freshman, Beach missed the 2012-13 season after undergoing surgery to repair torn ligaments in the knee. She spent the past seven months rehabilitating, with the expectation of returning to the court in November. Now that is on hold.

Beach announced the injury on her Twitter account: “Tore my ACL and MCL again … I can’t believe this at all, but I’ll be back. … Went up for a rebound and came down on one leg and it bent in."

The Ohio State medical staff is calling the injury “a right knee sprain”. There is no timetable for her return.

This might change if Nebraska keeps beating them. Iowa is 0-6 against the Huskers the last two years.

I debated about even posting this but decided since it's in Nebraska I'd just put it here.

Creighton:

Matt Fritsche the former Midland University women’s basketball coach notified his team on Monday that he was leaving to accept a job as an assistant coach on Jim Flanery’s staff at Creighton University.

“I love my kids and I will do anything for them forever,” Fritsche said. “It was really difficult to disappoint them. … They are very mature and bright young ladies. They know this is a positive for my family and it wasn’t about anything else. I think they all understood, but it was really a tough day.”

Fritsche guided a young Midland squad to a 12-18 record in his only season at the school. Midland won three of its final four games and the team’s top three scorers (Joelle Andersen, Taylor Shepard and Jamilah Johnson) all return. He also has already secured a solid recruiting class that includes former Columbus High standout Sammi Licari.

Chevelle Herring is the MU interim coach and Fritsche said the program is in good hands.

Purdue:

http://www.sportspagemagazine.com/content/bb/wc-bb/ln-wc-bb/taylor-manuel-to-transfer.shtml?57087

Sophomore Taylor Manuel will transfer from Purdue, head coach Sharon Versyp announced Friday.

“It saddens me that Taylor has decided to leave the Purdue family,” Versyp said. “We appreciate her contributions to last year’s Big Ten Tournament championship team and wish her the best in her future, both athletically and academically.”

Manuel was a freshman last season, helping the Boilermakers to a 25-9 record, the fourth Big Ten Tournament championship in Versyp’s seven years at Purdue and to the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The 6-foot-2 center played in all 34 games, averaged 8.1 points and 3.2 rebounds in 16 minutes per game, while shooting 52.8 percent from the field. The St. Louis, Mo., native was named to the Big Ten All-Freshman Team.

The Boilermakers have three starters returning, including leading scorer Courtney Moses (13.3 ppg), point guard KK Houser (11.3 ppg and 4.7 apg) and senior guard Dee Dee Williams. A total of nine letterwinners are back and Versyp and her staff will have the services of Maryland transfer Whitney Bays this season. Also joining the roster are Ashley Morrissette, the 2013 Ohio Ms. Basketball and Bridget Perry, a 6-foot-2 guard/forward.

Manuel is expected to transfer to a Division II institution, but has not named a specific school.

Creighton:

Creighton's Carly Tritz has threw her sneakers into her locker for the last time. Although not B1G related but Big East. This could be a big blow for Creighton. When healthy Tritz was really good.

UMBCOAUZQVKSMXZ.20110223195710.jpg

Creighton has announced that guard Carli Tritz has decided to give up basketball because of lingering knee problems.

Tritz was the Missouri Valley Conference preseason player of the year last season, but problems with her right knee limited her and she finished with an average of 6.8 points a game.

The Sioux City, Iowa, native had been the second-leading scorer in the Valley as a freshman in 2010-11 was a first-team all-conference pick as a sophomore after scoring 15 points a game.

Iowa:

University of Iowa women’s basketball coach Lisa Bluder announced Friday that forward Kayla Timmerman will not return to the team this season due to personal reasons.

A 6-foot-3 forward and a native of Wayzata, Minn., Timmerman averaged 4.5 minutes, 1.3 points, and one rebound in 26 games off the bench as a freshman last season.

She figured to be in the mix for the starting center position with the graduation of Morgan Johnson. Her absence means the Hawkeyes will have one experienced returning post, Bethany Doolittle.

Penn State:

http://www.centredaily.com/2013/10/16/3840095/penn-state-womens-basketball-lady.html

Washington returns six players, including two starters. One of those starter is Maggie Lucas, the reigning Big Ten Player of the Year. The senior guard, one of the nation’s best 3-point shooters, averaged 20.3 points per game and is on pace to become the second-leading scorer is school history.

Lucas will be a focal point for the opposition in the coming season.

Most of the Media Days during Washington’s previous six seasons have focused more on the returning players, but this season the hot topic was the largest recruiting class in her tenure. The new faces include seven freshmen — forwards Kaliyah Mitchell, Peyton Whitted, Alex Harris and Jenny DeGraaf, guards KeKe Sevillian and Lindsey Spann and center Infiniti Alston — and a transfer, sophomore guard Sierra Moore, to a roster of 14.

Spann, who suffered a knee injury, and Moore, who can practice but must sit out a season after transferring from Duke, won’t play this season, but the remainder will see action.

Ohio State:

Coach Kevin McGuff said this week that he doesn't expect red-shirt sophomore forward Kalpana Beach to play for the Buckeyes this season.

Beach missed the 2012-13 season after tearing the anterior cruciate ligment in her right knee on Oct. 8. Surgery followed and she rehabbed all season. In April, Beach suffered a second tear and underwent surgery again.

Down the road, McGuff could petition the NCAA a sixth year of eligibilty for Beach.

"I'd rather do that than just try and play her at the end of the year," he said.

A healthy Beach would improve the frontcourt depth of the Buckeyes in 2014-15. She started 30 games as a freshman and would have started last season.

Sophomore forward Kelsey Mitchell of the University of Michigan women's basketball team will miss three to five months with a foot injury.

Mitchell broke a bone in her foot during Michigan's preseason workouts and had surgery to repair the injury on Monday. She missed the 2012-13 season after tearing her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in summer workouts.

Purdue:

How will the Boilermakers adjust without Taylor Manuel?

The sudden departure of the talented freshman last summer leaves a hole in the middle. Manuel’s minutes will be divided several ways. If Versyp uses four guards a majority of the time, only one post is needed.

Camille Redmon is Purdue’s only true center but her offensive skills need to be polished. Maryland transfer Whitney Bays and Liza Clemons will be counted on to rebound but also provide offensive production inside.

Is there enough room for all the guards? Eight of the 12 players on the roster are listed as guards, including returning starters KK Houser and Courtney Moses.
