12dozen Posted January 7 Author Report Posted January 7 (edited) Indiana set a team record today. As visiting team, they hit 14 threes. They play Iowa Saturday. That should be interesting. Edited January 8 by 12dozen colhusker 1 Quote

Or, at least, find some help from the portal. MM was never going to be that player. She was part time from day 1. Back to this game, Indiana is very good. If they play like that against Iowa, we might see Bluder implode. I'll tune in. Edited January 8 by 12dozen Merlin and Red Don 2 Quote

All About the Corn Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 Can’t say I am surprised by the score. I am disappointed in Parrish going off on us. I would think the scouting report had her as a 3 point threat. Also thought we should have used Potts more in the paint. Did not think Parrish could guard her well enough. Kind of going back to what has been said before, playing to our players strength’s. On to Illinois. Quote
HUD Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 It's time to start Nissley at the 3. Wouldn't have made any difference today but would in many of the upcoming games starting with over rated Illinois this Thursday. She has a lot more of an upside than demonstrated by the person there now. Tom Jones, Merlin and All About the Corn 3 Quote
All About the Corn Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 Also was asked in the stands today what is going on with Jaz? The WI game and now this game she has not really looking for her shot. Is she or has she been ill? It was going to be a uphill battle with her playing the way we know she can play but this version of Jaz is not making the grade. Quote
longtimefan Posted January 7 Report Posted January 7 I totally agree with HUD on Nissley starting. That kid is a shooter. Brings instant offense. Krull just isn't a scorer. She should be coming off the bench. Neb Nets, Merlin and Montana_85 F 3 Quote

I think the announcers did mention her being under the weather earlier, just now getting back towards 100%. Also, Indiana had a smothering defense. That wasn't by accident. I remember Stewart making one open three, and Indiana called timeout to address it. They were ready for this one. Quote

Kind of going back to what has been said before, playing to our players strength’s. On to Illinois. I personally don’t think we are utilizing players’ strengths. Natalie is strong in the paint. Nissley definitely should be in more for offense, but it’s pretty bad watching her consistently get beat on defense. She isn’t fast enough to defend most guards, and she’s not big enough to guard 4s and 5s, and that is hurting us. Hake and Jaz cannot go left at all. They don’t even see the left side of the court when they are running the offense. White is not being used efficiently. They have her as a primary ball handler, because she can beat the press on her own, but what good is that if we never push once she gets the ball across half court? They want her to pass the ball and run to the corner. Hmmm. Not sure how that is effective, or how it’s any different from last year. Why go get a PG that is known to push in transition if you are just going to have her slow down and set up the same offense every time? These things are all confusing and frustrating to me. Having said that, I have seen this team play well together and have chemistry, so I’m hoping it’s just a process and we will get there. Neb Nets 1 Quote
Cazzie22 Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 Some observations on today’s game after my three hour drive home. Sorry that I drove that far to see this result. Indiana is very good. Indiana presented plenty of difficult matchups for us to defend. Indiana executed very well on offense and had numerous easy buckets on drives to the basket, we could not stay in front. Indiana set up their 3 pt. shooters Indiana smothered us with their defense. Yes, they were physical so we need as Coach Williams said post game to “Toughen up!” We kept trying to run the same offensive sets with little result. We had very few open looks, even from three. We lack anyone who can beat their defender off the drive. Potts and Markowski would show their numbers to the guards and we couldn’t enter the ball in good position because of their pressure. I was hoping we might be contenders for a high B1G finish but we may be pretenders. On to Illinois which will again challenge our lack of quickness. 12dozen 1 Quote
caveman Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 I thought we defended poorly. We allowed too much space. When a team comes in shooting 50% (+) on the year.... I thought we should've been in 3 out zone and having the mentality of hammering whatever comes in your zone, ball or not. That would have allowed help on Holmes, who really is just flat out good. I did love what we did in the press at the end of the game. I did like most of what we did offensively except, we need more things driving to the rack, at very least we'd get to the charity stripe NUtball 1 Quote

But wishful thinking aside, if you all had to pick one Husker women’s basketball player from the last 10 years who you could bring back for this season, which past player do you think could help this year’s team the most? I would select Rachel Theriot to come in and play point guard. I miss watching her. She had a great all around game. Fantastic passing and court vision. Rachel Theriot, no doubt and hands down. In addition to passing and court vision, she had length for a pg, she was a shooter, and she played defense. Actually, Britt Prince (who was at the game today, with her mom and just four rows ahead of me) is quite comparable to Theriot but with an even better 3 pt shot. So if I am right about that, those of us who "voted" for RT in reply to NebNet's question ..... we will next year get our wish .... plus a little bit. Neb Nets and AuroranHusker 1 1 Quote
Tom Jones Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 IU made 64% of their 3 pt attempts. that is comparable to shooting 96% on 2s. Unless an opponent has a huge advantage in rebounds and turnovers, there is no beating that. Neb Nets and 12dozen 2 Quote
longtimefan Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 Huskerfanzz sees Nissley consistently getting beat on defense. Doesn't think she is fast enough. I've watched all the games and all our guards are constantly getting beat. They are all slow. Each the opposing guards constantly drive to the basket for mostly uncontested layups. So I would like to see a lot more of Nissley because at least she can score some points. Cazzie22, whoopdeedoo, All About the Corn and 2 others 1 4 Quote

I can’t argue with you wanting to have Nissley out there to score…but it doesn’t do much good if we are just trading baskets because she doesn’t get back on defense. But if that’s the best we can do, I’ll take it. I’d rather have her than Krull for that reason. Quote
HUD Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 As far as getting beat on defense I can be more tolerant if a freshman does versus a 4th or 5th year player. Merlin 1 Quote

AuroranHusker Posted January 8 Report Posted January 8 (edited) Despite the frustration of a less than stellar Husker effort today, it was an A+ experience for my pre-teen daughter and myself at PBA. Loved the Jordan Hooper pre-game moment, and if she doesn't have the greatest basketball player name, I'm not sure who else it might be. As always, GO BIG RED!
