With regards to Briggs, she played 32+ minutes, most on her team.  I could see a particular line-up having more of an impact, if she played fewer minutes. Not sure how this translates to someone who played all but 7+ minutes.  Basically, we won by 6.  While she was on the floor, we outscored them by 10, despite her 25 points.  That is the type of things I find interesting, with regards to statistics.

Maryland had one other player coming back from injury. But I don't remember which one.

This is the post that I was talking about.

I probably could have worded it better.   When I stated " I noticed Maryland had a few players that had plus minutes for the game", I was just saying, those players had positive +/- ratings for the game.  During their minutes on the court, they outscored Nebraska.  Briggs wasn't one of them, dispite her offensive output.  Was it just an anomaly, or were there reasons for it?  I don't know, but do find it an interesting stat.

In regards to Potts playing a lot of minutes which some of you endorse.  Do you Have any worries about Freshman Burnout. Or is it just use her, abuse her and let the chips fall where they may.

She might be able to handle more minutes?  Don't know.  We're just fans, with thoughts. Some suggestions are better than others.  People who don't give a darn about the team, don't frequent these pages.

Just my opinion, but I think lines of communication and coach/player relationships are such, if workload becomes an issue, it will be expressed/noticed.  I have been critical of this staff at times regarding recruiting, player development, substitution strategy, etc., but on a personal level, I believe this staff operates in the players best interest.

Yes we are all fans that want the best for our team.  Even though we only see a little of what goes on with the team in practice etc. I still enjoy the input that we have on this forum.  Sometimes we are right on and many times way off.  Hindsight is always 100%.  Any way we are 2-0 with two great wins and I hope we can keep up our intensity.  Next Sunday Indiana will be another great measuring stick.  GBR beat Wisconsin.

I am sure Amy will find time to give Potts in game rest as needed. Sounded like she would have in the second half but Potts still was  playing at a high level so she rolled the dice and kept her in. Was a little surprised Petrie played just a few minutes.

She has only averaged 23 minutes per game so far, so there should be plenty of gas left in the tank.

I think there is a huge difference between playing her a few more minutes vs subjecting her to use and abuse. She shows absolutely no signs (visible to us) of being worn down or experiencing any loss of energy or enthusiasm. If those were to develop, I am sure that the coaching staff would dial it back.

But it's an interesting question - interesting enough that I looked at the minutes played by past freshmen who showed early signs of being key contributors.

Jordan Hooper    29 minutes per game

Lindsay Moore     28

Kelsey Griffi          25

Jess Shepard       29

Rachel Theriot     26

Alexis Markowski 22

Pott's at 23 is on the low side right now but the comparison would be misleading if the others increased their minutes per game as the seasons rolled on. And Potts might do the same.

One more thought .... I have been a fan for 25+ years and don't really recall any cases of freshman burnout. Same for VB where several freshmen have been full time players as freshmen and have gone on to four full years of great production.

As elsewhere on this forum, I am not suggesting that anyone is "wrong" - it's just interesting to consider points of view and see where they lead.

Happy 2024 !!

Been part of club team play and development of kids in athletics quite a bit.

Just don't think college freshman burnout's an issue... hardly at all. These are kids (coming into college) that have played sports for years probably before they ever got here. They were more than likely were the best on their team(s) and were on the floor 95% of the game time. They love it.

College freshman have to get used to the pace, and intensity of college ball of course. Mentality and physically. Some must adjust.

Sitting the bench is a much bigger issue. Mendelson is a good example. Leigha (sp) Brown another. There's many more examples of Nebraska players that were only here a couple of years.

In Potts case, she's probably not playing too much. A physical breather now and then is needed for sure. Next year and beyond she'll be stronger physically, will need to handle more play because of up coming team attrition alone. (We're losing about half the team in next two years)

Moving on to Wisky, Indiana,  and the B1G grind.   GBR

Looking ahead .....

The Nebraska women’s basketball game with Indiana on Sunday, Jan. 7, will tip at 1 p.m. (CT). The Big Ten Network made the announcement of the tip time late New Year’s Eve, following game time and TV selections for the NFL Week 18 flex picks for the coming weekend.

Sunday’s game for the Huskers features Pack PBA along with Alumni Day, recognition of the 10-year anniversary of Nebraska’s 2014 Big Ten Championship Team and the retirement of All-American Jordan Hooper’s No. 35 jersey.

OK it's not an issue, hardly.  Just remember she was playing 32 minute games against smaller, weaker slower players.  Now the players are bigger stronger and faster in 40 minute games. Besides in today's environment she will be playing for Missouri next year (I hope I'm joking)

I would like to look at it this way.  Natalie will be one of the main building blocks to taking our program to another level with more help coming next year.  We are retiring Jordan Hoopers Jersey next Sunday.  How great would that be to add Natalies as well some day.  We all need to stay positive when applicable.

I was at a college basketball game today. I was talking to a guy about Potts. And he said that if I was Williams, i'd be nervous about the transfer portal.

Thanks Bugs for verifying the modern environment for those that have their head in the sand.  Potts is from Missouri   All it takes is NIL money.  Look at the volleyball team with transfers out and in.

The transfer portal has changed the game as has NIL money. It could be anyone on the current roster that has time left to play that may decide to enter the portal, even NE girls. You can have what you think is a successful year and they still leave. Some leave because they want to play (thinking VB here) and not sit behind a starter. Some go because they are not getting enough playing time or not starting. Assistants talking with club coaches to gauge a players current status on their team. Are they happy would they consider going elsewhere. A girls favorite team not interested when they were in HS and now are. I will enjoy watching and cheering them on while they are here, be it 2 years or 4 years.
