We need a totally healed up Stewart and everybody else to stay healthy.  I expect a different attitude after the break as Williams looked pretty pissed after the loss to Kansas.  She also needs to quit pulling Potts out after 3 to 4 minutes into the qtr. and replacing her with Coley.  It has happened a lot the last couple of games.  Potts came in on fire and Amy looks like the fireman trying to cool her down.  I can tolerate a freshman making a mistake but we look the other way when even worse mistakes are made by upper classmen.

pulling Potts so soon - sometimes after she has barely touched the ball - really puzzles me. Only reason i can think of is to keep Coley happy.

How do you know what the script is?

The timing of her substitutions, regardless of game momentum, seem to me, preplanned.  Scripted by definition, is planned in advance.  I was replying to a post expressing something similar.  Are you fine with substitution patterns, or just like to be disagreeable?

Amy does follow a sub pattern at times. I have watched players and the clock and have seen it. Now it does not always get followed but she does use it. Not a surprise with Maggie in the portal. IMHO it was a wasted scholarship. But then we still have some we do not fill. Questions and more questions. So where is Sam M. Would be interested in his opinion.

In my mind at the end of the VB season she realized to play at this level you needed to pick a sport and dedicate yourself to it for the entire year.  Unfortunately for us WBB fans it was VB which necessitated the portal.  My wish was for her to choose BB, redshirt a year and then have three left to play after Alexis graduates.  Wishfull thinking.

the portal is what it is.................however, i will go on record saying it absolutely sucks a student athlete can transfer during the season (and, technically, it is mid-season for MM being on bb schollie). let me also add that she is far from the first one to do this. there are a number of examples, so i am not trying to just dump on MM at all. needs to be a number of improvements with this transfer portal.

if it all continues down this path, it might end up like the Spring Game .... where the players can transfer at half time.

Anyone hear Amy Williams comments on her radio show this past week?  Heard she had been in touch with MM.

A little off topic, but along these lines, the number of players 'opting out' of playing in the bowl games, is also disturbing to me.  I understand the risk they take, with regards to their futures in the sport. But, all games are a risk.  I'm curious how NIL money is affected by these decisions.  The player is basically under contract. Like I said, I understand their reasoning, but my respect for the individual is diminished some. Probably just me, but I also find them standing with the team on the sideline, a bit odd.

I would speculate that NIL deals are contract based.  So terms of that contract would determine the duties of all parties to said contract.  Will the next step be breach of contract lawsuits?

As to MM leaving and the timing; she is in a unique category given her two sport acumen.  I wish her well; but she had to do what felt right for her.  She seemed to be on the outside looking in at Nebraska (in both sports).

I believe that MM saw the writing on the wall regarding her status with the VB team - that she was never going to seriously push Allick or Jackson and win the co-starting MB role. And since VB is reportedly her true love, her preferred sport, she decided to leave NU and transfer to a lesser VB program where she can earn more playing time. Fine. Whatever. But it’s yet another gut punch to this WBB program to lose a scholarship post player in the middle of the season without that player even suiting up for a single game. Feels like NU WBB got left holding the bag on this one.

But no time to pout or feel sorry for ourselves…we are in for a grueling conference schedule in the next couple months.

What I read said she is playing VB only.

If true, in theory, she might be able to transfer back to Lincoln in a couple years and play some basketball?  Not sure if she could possibly play 2 seasons or not. I think the athletes work in a 5 year window.  Not probable, but remotely possible?  As mentioned by most, I wish her well.

It’s not that I don’t wish Maggie well…it’s just that I can’t help but be a little salty. Salty because her sudden transferring was absolutely no skin off the back of the NU VB program. They’ll never even notice her being gone. Nope, it was the WBB program that got left holding the bag on this whole Maggie Mendelson 2-sport athlete experiment at NU.

Sorry, just how I feel.

Other than her participation in practice, the only way she would be missed in VB is if one of the starters were to get injured.  And experience in the past few years with Stivrins, Knuckles, and Krause shows that this could happen.  In that case, Cook would have to convert one of the little used hitters to middle blocker.  That might be more difficult than it sounds.  Because of the months and years of repetition necessary to achieve elite status, there are few examples (of which i am aware) of VB players being elite at more than one position.

As for WBB being left holding the bag .... absolutely.  It was a wasted scholarship - maybe less important than that sounds at first, because HCAW doesn't use them all anyway.  It's possible though that the presence of MM - knowing that she had three years left - has discouraged other "bigs" from being interested in NU.

Relative to D-1 college athletes excelling in two different sports ... it is an extreme rarity.  There was a WBB player from Utah who played BB and VB and of course Charlie Ward at FSU and Bo Jackson.  But there are very few among the tens of thousands who specialize in one sport.  In HS and lower college divisions, in which natural athleticism will let players shine in half a dozen sports, it's common.  But in D-1 where natural ability isn't enough and reps, technique and experience are required, very few.  Michael Jackson, one of basketball's all time greats, hit .202 in minor league baseball.

I am happy for MM that she will concentrate one sport and have time for a "real life" in an off season.

No need to be 'sorry'.  It is your opinion.  My thought, WBB was 2nd fiddle from the get go.  Amy had scholarships to spare and had eyes wide open with regards to possible issues with a two sport Division I athlete. She did a 'solid' for coach Cook.  Any contribution to the WBB program was gravy.  It is what it is.  There has been nothing written that would lead me to believe MM was ever dishonest or non-transparent with where her priorities lie.  Again, wish her well.
