well, we didn't go into free fall in spite of that butt kicking. so there's that. I guess ya gotta give Badgers some props.

Maybe the hoops gods will grace us with the upset of the decade for our program. Would be a nice change.

It's very likely we're facing the #1 and #2 teams in the conference in back-to-back games.  It's also somewhat of a chance that we just played the #1 team.

Don’t look now but Minny is 12-3, 3-1 and up to 78 with their win today.  Quietly becoming now just a meh loss but almost a missed opportunity at a good win.

Minnesota might just win enough for Ben Johnson to keep his job (and keep Craig Smith/Niko Medved/Darian DeVries away).

Im honestly shocked… shocked!  I didn’t think that was a very good Minnesota team we played in December.  I’ve got tickets to that game in February and that may be an interesting one should each team continue on their current trajectory.

It's interesting to watch. I don't think they're a good team still, but they're clearly better than they were last year. Mitchell and Hawkins have a lot of juice to them. And I absolutely LOVE Payne. Very very very good big.

Also winning on the road in this conference is a very hard task. Michigan losing to PSU today may just mean they're a bad team, so them losing to Minnesota may have been the start of the spiral.

Got to like how our schedule is setting up over the last month of the season…

Well it's gonna be a lot easier than the first month that's for sure.

Up to #42 this morning, having not played anyone. Others losing in front of us or teams we've beaten doing well?

Took a month-and-a-half, but we're back up to #42.

In the meantime, we beat everyone we were supposed to (except maybe Minnesota) and we beat a couple of teams we weren't supposed to (Michigan St and Kansas St).

And now we knocked off #1. Which means we've beaten THREE teams we weren't supposed to and only lost to a Minnesota team that turns out is maybe better than anyone thought.

So, because we only beat South Carolina St by 29 or so ...

Looks like we have a 84.2% chance of avoiding playing on Wednesday.

And since you're wondering, yes, I often am accused of looking at the bright side of almost everything.

I'd say that percentage may have ticked up a notch after beating #1 Purdue. GBR

Our overall strength of schedule jumped nearly 100 spots since I last checked:

Strength of Schedule
Components: 105.2 160 104.7 161 104.9
Overall: +0.50 150 0.00
Non-conference: -7.81 353 0.00

While that non-con. number isn't pretty, it certainly helped NU to gel and win a bunch of ballgames, and essentially assisted in the Huskers being able to win some big games after that initial process of becoming a good team. GBR

Big jump up to #41, we are now closer to passing up Ohio State than we are to getting passed by Iowa or Northwestern.

Kansas State gets another win, this time on the road at WVU.  They move back into the 50's and that helps us out a bunch.

Ken moves us back up to 21-10 (11-9).  Torvik says  22-9 (12-8).

San José State loses yet another heartbreaker, this time to San Diego State, but move up 12 spots to #167.

I was watching that last night while winding down. SJSU was down 2 with 13 seconds left, their PG worked into the paint where he found a cutter who got the game tying shot erased from behind because that's the type of team that San Diego St has.

I watched a little as well, but was able to fall asleep when they were down a couple in the 2nd half.

Tim’s having himself a Scott Frost type of season.  “Close but no cigars”

Oh, so that is what you call them.  I have heard different terms for them.

for me, it's gotta probably be this year....so Huskers, just let me go out with a winning season...:) In return, I won't haunt you!

This seems about as good a year as any to finally get that monkey off our backs.

Hang in there. We 'bout to get places we ain't never been before.
