And college basketball just gets curiouser and curiouser.                   College Basketball Coach Will Sue Team For $11 Million After He Was Fired ‘For Cause’ (msn.com)

Nebraska name drop in there as he hired the same lawyer as Rhule has.

I don’t think the Jonnies have much ground to stand on, but if they do come out on top, you might start to see schools trying to find anything and everything NOT to have to pay.

Someone want to tell Dana there’s a place that gets 10-15K a night for a team that hasn’t been to the post season in 5 years?

Sharp and Handley talked about this today. Gary said Dana wanted the job twice: When Collier was hired and when Hoiberg was hired. If things go south and Dana is either still at Oregon, out of coaching or not at another high major job, I wonder if Trev could finally pull off the trick?

Altman has an interesting situation:

2019-20 Season: Covid --  no post-season tournament but a .772 Conference record

2020-21 Season: one win in NCAA and a .778 Conference record

2021-22 Season: one win in NIT and a .550 Conference record

2022-23 Season: two wins in NIT (lost at home) and a .600 Conference record.

It's all a matter of perspective.  At a place like Oregon, those results will raise concerns in the fanbase . . . and perhaps the administration.  A 3,300 home attendance will amplify those concerns.

Altman's reaction in the tweet above suggests some pressure--similar to Hoiberg's description of this year's final game as a "crushing" loss.

Here's guessing that the temperature on Altman's coaching seat isn't any cooler than Fred Hoiberg's.  At least Hoiberg showed a progression this season in the right direction, while Altman's progression over the last two is otherwise.

Yikes.

Not a good look for the University.

They tried to fire the Coach "for cause" so they don't have to pay the $11 million buyout.

Here are the main parts of the firing letter, according to ESPN:

"Anderson was fired for 'failure to create and support an environment that strongly encourages student-athletes who are in the men’s basketball program to meet all university academic requirements,' 'failure to perform your duties and responsibilities in a manner that reflected positively on St. John’s University … in actions [that] brought serious discredit' to the school and 'failure to appropriately supervise and communicate with your assistant coaches.' – via ESPN"

The University had better have some strong evidence to back up those conclusory statements--or the University is going to lose.

Yeah, it’s not a great look, but they also just hired Rick Pitino, so I’m not sure that’s their chief concerned either.

Guessing he leaked interest on purpose as a middle finger to the new AD and maybe get a raise. He also recently tweeted a picture of him and Bruce Rasmussen a couple days ago, probably not a coincidence

I think it’s more with their President than the AD. The President is the guy who wanted him fired for the “comment”. Based on message boards it doesn’t seem like most people like the guy anyway. Seems kinda like our Pearlman

Agree with that too but I’m pretty sure the new AD and him are not tight. If the president is Pearlman (painful to even type his name) the AD is Eichorst

Kinda ironic that McDermott lost out on a once-in-a-lifetime place (Notre Dame's mystique) because his current team didn't lose early enough to secure said position in South Bend. Contrary to that, it's a shrewd move by Shrewsberry to get outta Happy Valley, and a loss secured that new position at UND. Twist of fate....
