Regardless of the W/L record, try to enjoy watching Derrick Walker this year

Walker is a Grown Ass Man out there, & that Dopey White Boy from Creighton wanted NO part of him.

I'm loving the Walker love fest, but to your point, he is literally a 'grown ass man'. The dude is 25. Those extra years of experience he has over his opponents works in his favor and he's taking advantage of it. This is not a knock, just saying that it shouldn't be that much of a surprise to folks that he is having the kind of success he had last season and so far this season. So as Norm said, let's enjoy him while we got him.

Amos Gregory has got to be on there.

I am shocked anytime Walker makes a strong move and finished with a buttery soft touch after being traumatized by centers with Turekitis for the past 40 years.

I can remember the fans and media making Famous Amos out to be the next Wilt Chamberlain and the coaches trying to down play it.

What Walker did on Sunday was incredibly impressive. Kalkbrenner was a step slow, slightly out of position, a tad too late to react on shots, and Walker made him pay.

Breaking down Walker's shot attempts, I classified 10 of them as essentially one-on-one with Kalkbrenner. Kalkbrenner stopped him four times, Walker scored on the other six. His other six attempts were on other players or in situations where others created a finishing opportunity for him (he shot 4-6).

Walker was 11 for 16 from the field, so the numbers you presented don't add up. . .

Shang Ping (2008) is offended by this list!

I actually applaud Shang Ping for his toughness. During a summer league game he and Joe Dabbert got into it and I was loving every moment. That’s also the game that Ricky Thenarse and Larry Asante challenged Chad Millard to a fight in the parking lot after Chad was jawing too much with Sek Henry. Aww, the good ole summer league days. The one time I got to see Robert Sallie fly in the air and hammer dunk Pierce Hibma…

You're forgetting February 19, 2011, when Matt Hill was his bitch.

Derrick, you put on a special show for us fans this year. I predict it'll be awhile before we see the likes of someone like you again. A big man who can bring the ball up the floor, initiate the offense, hit cutters with regularity, occasionally lead the team in assists, and yet do all the usual big man stuff like rebound, defend the paint, and score inside.

It's been a real treat watching you develop. And this was a special year for you. Congratulations on your senior night, though I know you've already graduated (I watched you walk across the stage.)

You'll be missed.

Ends his career just short of the all-time FG% record.  He had it for most of the year and then tailed off at the end....3 more makes would have done it.

Larry Cox: 62.5%
Derrick Walker: 62.0%

Both are undersized post players.  Larry lived on my dorm floor my freshman year.  Very quiet and strong in his faith.  He played with a lot of outside talent that gave him much more space in the paint.  Of course, play was much less physical in that Era as well.

In my lifetime, I have had the pleasure of watching both Larry Cox and Derrick Walker.  Watched Cox while in college at UNL.  Loved him!  Attended a game in the Coliseum against OU and their star Waymon Tisdale.  Can't remember who won, or the score of the game.  Those early games are what gave me a love for Husker basketball.

You may be misrembering a little...Larry's career in Nebraska ended in 1975-76 and Tisdale played in the mid 80's.  By the way he died in 2009.  You may have been thinking about Alvan Adam's who was a pretty good post man for them during the Cox Era.

There are not a lot of us still around who attended games at PBA, The Bob and the Coliseum.   Loved games the Coliseum.  When we would get it going, the floor would literally shake.
