I've read a very similar article about Sam's medical event, but Amie Just of the LJS put it together again today.  Definitely worth the read as we start the season tomorrow.   I just don't know you can't like and respect this kid.

Thanks for the link, Huskerpapa.  Sam has now become my favorite Husker, maybe of this century.  The cip family is all too familiar with hemoglobin levels.

Yep, the kid has won me over.  Definitely my favorite player on this team.  I really hope he has a great year!

Strong individual. Health scare aside, this part of the article made me think: "You're living many of our dreams, Sam. Kudos."

 

When Sam was 10, as Achim remembers, they were in the car, driving to some sporting event.

Unprompted, Sam asked, “Why does everybody in Nebraska only talk about football?”

 

Achim and Kathy told their son, well, football is what Nebraska is known for.

Sam wanted none of it.

 

“‘Wait until I get there,’” Achim remembers little Sam saying.

 

Twelve years later, Sam is here.

I had Sam at a ton of basketball camps when he was a little kid and him playing, as a senior in college, makes me feel very, very old. He was a super intense little kid. Zero surprise he turned out good.

Sam Griesel appears to be everything Nebraska Basketball has been lacking character wise for the past 3 years. Dude is beyond genuine and you can tell how much he cares about this team and this program. Regardless of how this season goes he’ll be remembered fondly as a Husker for a long time.
