Break out player

Recommended Posts

If I counted correctly, CJ will be the 5th best returning 3pt shooter in the Big Ten. A slow start suppressed his season total. The team as a whole shot incredibly poorly last year until the Kansas State game. After that, they shot 37% as a team. CJ was north of 46%. Without the slow start, that would have put him #2 in the conference. But that's not how stats work, so he was relegated to 13th in the conference. 39% from 3 as a team would have made them a top 5 team in all of college basketball from 3. That would be nice, but probably too high of an expectation for any team to finish that high. NU finished shooting around 32% as a team. That was 263rd in the country. It doesn't sound alike a lot, but a 4 point jump to 36% would be a huge improvement.

How about Sam Griesel.  Here's an article in today's Omaha World Herald.

Here's from the end of the article, after talking about his recovery from surgery:

When the seniors team up in practice, Griesel said, “(We are) taking care of the ball and doing the little things that winners do.”

Sometimes that maturity comes with creaks and pains. Griesel’s leg was sore after Thursday’s practice.

No more hip troubles, though. No more limping.

“Oh no,” Griesel said. “That’s just old man body.”

Keita chose Nebraska over Baylor, Minnesota, Tennessee, Arizona State and Oklahoma State.  He was one of top JUCO players in the country earning 4 stars (I think).

If he becomes our break out player, it shouldn't be a surprise.

Were we looking for the surprise player nobody is expecting?
