“Three hundred of them are not going to find a school to go to because they’re going to realize it’s not the school they just left, it’s them,” Auriemma said. “Just like last year, right? A thousand kids in the portal, 250 of them had no place to go, and the guys that they left don’t want them back. Whatever happened to go (to a school) and figure it the hell out?”

“A third of our team sits on the bench and doesn’t really play a whole lot,” Staley acknowledged. “Is that really fair to them? … You have to allow them that space, but surely it’s way, way, way, way out of hand.”

Syracuse lost some nice players last year.  I see two of them are playing in the Final Four.

I took a look on the web;  Syracuse had 12 players leave via the portal.  Looks like a few more this year.  They just named a new coach, previously at Buffalo.  Might be why we are seeing some nice players from Buffalo enter the portal.  Crazy times, for sure.

I like the opportunity for players to transfer once, without having to sit out a year.  Even though some don't find a place, we see others like Ashton Veerbeek settle in closer to home, at a smaller college, and by all indications, doing very well.  In time, you'd think some type of normalcy will evolve.  One can hope.

It's too easy to leave one for another now. Not too many want to not start for 2 or 3 years before getting a shot or playing better than half the game.

They can only do this once and be immediately eligible.  It might appear easy.  It shouldn't be difficult. But, this is not a decision the student athlete should take lightly.  As the article indicates, transferring isn't all 'happy endings'.

Also, like it or not, NIL opportunities play a part in this.  The landscape has changed.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out.
