Just not athletic enough. If your guards can't get by the defense you're in trouble.

Admittedly this comes up every time we play Maryland.  It is indeed accurate though and needs to be addressed in recruiting.

I'm only listening (not watching). Wondering if we're getting totally out-physicaled, or whether it's partially that Maryland is freaking out Nebraska.

Hard to see us getting out-physicaled, but Maryland seems quicker, and is executing better.   Got to hand it to Maryland. They are playing good defense, really making it tough for us, then so many of our shots are off the mark, even with good looks.

Recruiting...

Maryland has been recruiting at a high level for well over a decade. Win a lot... and it obviously helps recruiting.  Plus the their location get all the east coast talent.

..and their well coached

But didn't expect us to get this embarrassed

We'll see the second half. Think we'll recover a bit.  Don't expect them to shoot this well the whole game....maybe

Watched a couplie of their games previously ... unfortunately it's the best I've seen them play.

Coley an and Moriarity (sp) should have been in a long time ago. They're quicker and faster. Coley has done a lot already.

We're over the jitters...but a bit to late.  Just score all we can.

Looks like Maryland has called in the dogs somewhat.

Sam and Jaz combine for 6 points.  Tough to win but they had bigger, quicker players defending them.  Defense didn’t lose us this game, we were just inept against the Maryland defense until they let up some in the 2nd half.

Well, today was Ice Cream For Breakfast Day.

I went to the game and was hoping for a traditional nail biter in the NU-NU series.

That hope was dashed by the end of the first quarter... If not earlier.

=========================

That's what I had for Breakfast Today (Sunday), Noah !!!!!   😄    (You know what 'they' say about "a day late')

Afraid we Got Schooled today. Maryland was just better, and executed better across the board. If our shots were falling, we finished our shots in the paint & made the good looks from deep, we could have made a game of it.

It will be a good experience for us, just what we'll have to do to excel. I expect we'll bounce back @ Ohio State!

Couldn't help myself.  I watched the 2nd half.  Glad I did.  A few, less than informed, comments:  Not sure why Coley hadn't been getting minutes, but looks like she belongs on the floor.  Scoggin might not be our most athletic player, but love her effort. Weidner belongs on the floor, as many minutes as possible.  There are a couple starters, that didn't  seem to play with much urgency today.  Maryland held Markowski and Jaz in check.  Probably their game plan.  Ruby, Coley, Weidner, and Scoggin, held their own against a very good team.   Well done.    GBR

And that will be the other teams game plan from now on, and has been a while.   We have to have more scorers than just them.

Conversely we don't seem to do that as a game plan or double team the other teams leading scorer. (Yori sure did. One player would haunt a certain player all game long. You could count on it)

Everyone was scoring for Maryland...our defense couldn't stop anyone.  They just were to athletic....maybe had more fire in the belly today too.

Going to watch some of the Iowa-Minn game now....

I sort of feared this type of result considering the run of games we had plus we were playing them on their home court.  I was disappointed by how they boat raced us in the first half and removed any real doubt about the result.  I suspect that was their hope and attempted plan- and not let our depth be a factor- and shots fell for them.  As alluded to above in basketball sometimes it happens that way, one team has it mostly going for them and the other can't seem to get it to.  Like what happened to the men yesterday but no doubt the ladies' effort was quite a bit better.  Not exactly an apples to apples comparison there but I think you get the idea.  I think this got the ladies' attention and they will strive to execute a lot better @ OSU and make it a lot more interesting of a game.  A little more time in between the two games now I think will help.  GBR!!

Thought we looked like a team that has played quite a few games with little rest. Good thing is 4 of our 5 starters played no more than 25 minutes yesterday. We really need someone who can make a mid range jumper. Coley as times appears to be able to hit them but she plays so little in her current position. You live by the three, you die by the three. Also too many turn overs by our point guards. As was pointed our earlier this was decided in the first half. Hopefully with a little more rest we have a better game against OSU.

As always (14 straight losses to Maryland) their height, length, athleticism and experience at guard which is 4 of their positions gave us fits especially for Jazz and Sam.  Their guards with the exception of Katie Bentzen are all 6'2"" or taller and we had a lot of problem with that since our guards are between 5'7" and 5'10". This is the only team we play like that and I'm glad we only play them once.  Michigan and Maryland are a notch above the rest of the pack.  Mich to win regular season big ten and Maryland the conference tournament.  That's OK with me as long as Iowa doesn't get squat.

I like our team but the best we can hope for is a 5th or 6th place finish.  Maryland clearly has our number and we cannot match their length and quickness.  The freshman who started for Brown and Michigan yesterday was outstanding. She is going to be a great player.
