While that 25 & 11 percent JUMP out at you, I can't help but feel it seems even worse than that. While discussing the Minnesota loss on KFAN last Thursday, they said, "Nebraska, which basically hasn't won a game since Tim Miles left, defeated your Golden Gophers"...

Ouch - it's not as if Minny has set the world on fire... and they've never beaten NU in Lincoln since Pinnacle Bank Arena opened, and 10 years since they did win in 2012. Wow, that was cold blooded. 😉

Goldy’s been to the Dance in ‘13, ‘17 & ‘19. The co-host who uncorked that line is friends with Miles & is still sore about how it ended down here. The sad part is what he said sure FEELS that way. I thought worse case scenario this year we’d be hovering around .500, not hanging another 20 loss season in the books…

Yeah, okay, that context makes more sense.

What strikes me about these numbers is how remarkably bad this program has been during my lifetime. Sure, we’ve had a season here and a season there, but our best men’s basketball coach in the past 40+ years was 57% overall and 44% conference? Really puts the futility of Nebraska basketball in perspective. There has to be a special place in heaven for Huskers Hoops fans.

  • 2 years later...

Wanted to circle back and note that due to WWII that in addition to being the basketball coach, AJ Lewandowski was the football coach, Athletic Director, and business manager for UNL during that 4 year span. He also coached one year of Nebraska baseball and taught PE for the U.

Lewandowski graduated from UNL in 1930 where he lettered in 4 sports:  football, basketball, baseball and tennis.  After graduation and before he was hired by Nebraska, he coached at Montana.  At the end of his coaching career he was Nebraska's business manager until his death in 1961 at the age of 56 from a known heart condition. He was tabbed as the acting AD during the 53-54 season.

It used to sound like the fans were yelling "Lewwwww" in the Colosseum, but they were really yelling boo.

Turns out they should have cut him some slack, since he was overworked.

Now these NBA players have "load management," LEW didn't know what the word meant. He was a Huskeraholic, evidently. #BeastMode
