Huskers Close Historic Home Stand With Red Out
Nebraska closes the first four-game conference home stand in school history on Thursday when the Huskers play host to Penn State at Pinnacle Bank Arena.

Tip-off between the Huskers (16-4, 5-4 Big Ten) and the Lady Lions (9-11, 3-7 Big Ten) is set for 7 p.m. (CT) with tickets available now at Huskers.com.

The Big Red, who are 3-0 on the current stand, have called for a "Red Out" with all fans encouraged to wear red to help celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day (Feb. 2) and National Wear Red Day (Feb. 4). The Huskers will be wearing their red uniforms.

This is Penn St's 3 or 4th game in a short amount of time, like us. So  both teams will be a bit tired probably.

Penn State isn't a real deep team. Will play the 5 starters mostly, and a couple of subs. Marisa is their scorer and a very good player, and two other starters contribute too. Shoot 3's pretty well, and free-throws well too.  They aren't like Rutgers, so it should be a more "typical" style game.

With a lot of effort we might be able to control the boards. Just have to play (shoot) a lot better to have a good outcome. Our depth should be an advantage, as well as the home court.

This is a must win in the bigger scheme of things. Have Maryland game very soon too, as the schedule gets tougher again.

Tonight is a must win. We need to position ourselves to finish below the top echelon teams, Michigan, Indiana, Ohio St and Maryland.  Yes, we could knock off some of those teams but we must win this game with Penn St.

I still think we can end up in the top four. Iowa plays Mich and Indiana twice and Maryland once.  Need to take care of business one game at a time.  I would hate to think that the game we lost to Mich state would keep us out of a top 4 finish as we never should have lost that game.  Poor substitution strategy cost us that one.

Halftime Stats:

Addition:

Stats are amazingly close. Penn State is out-shooting us (but we have a few more attempts). To reiterate Cazzie, they are defending well. A close game that may go down to the wire.

Zone defense ?  Where is it? We're getting our post pulled out of the lane covering people on the outside. Get her back into the lane.

(you realize PSU is doing that on purpose of course)

We're getting beat in the lane

Where's our adjustments ?

Went to Markowski in the lane in 4th qtr. and boom...we get a 10+ point lead. She fouled out two Penn St posts.

Weidner was a real spark tonight. Maybe her best game overall.

Penn St played hard but the lack of subbing led to fouling out lots of their people. Played good defense though.

We got serious in the last quarter and cruised to the win. :)
