i didn't get to see the game.......the biggest question i have always had in the back of my mind is how they rebound in the big ten. yes, non-con was "fun"........but, i still looked at this team in the 6-7-8 range in the conference. like one of the articles i read (can't remember who stated it in their column---hayes or creme?) he stated huskers will need some upsets to make the ncaa's with the non-con schedule they played.

I watched and was disappointed in the effort on defensive boards.  Hillmon May terrorize us Tuesday.  Cravens and Bourne have to be much better.

First, I love this team.  The performance this afternoon was uncharacteristic of the first 12 games: shot selection, shooting, ball movement, rebounding  - all were strikingly substandard.  I don't know how much this has to do with the competition.  But, regardless of level of competition, the effort and the hustle (except for Haiby) were substandard and disappointing.  On loose balls and contested rebounds, Huskers were out hustled and out fought.  Most disappointing was that in the last few minutes, the bench deep Huskers seemed like they were more exhausted and worn down than the short handed Spartans.

I know that some (and maybe most) members here will disagree with my last comment, but here it is .... I watched the game a second time.  I think it was a very well officiated game.  I saw no evidence of bias in favor of the home team.  #42, with her quickness, ability to switch from lateral movement and straight ahead motion, and quick hands is very difficult to guard w/o fouling and that, not the officiating, accounts for the difference in number of fouls called.

We have had very poor rebounding from our starting posts for the last two games.  Six total against Wyoming and 3 total today.  Is it lack of size, toughness or hustle. Heaven for bid when we play Indiana or Michigan with their great posts.  Markowski doubled their rebounds with 1/3 the playing time.  Haiby and Shelly had 16 between them today.

Pretty much the same thing today.  Points too.  And...she was disrupting the inside, created several fouls, where she sank 5-6 free throws.

Hard to figure why your most effective post is watching the game, collecting splinters.

The thing I was most disappointed in was there was no adjustments made defensively, MSU was not gonna beat us from outside with that roster today but yet we kept letting them get into the paint over and over again. Msu was the more aggressive team and we settled for 3's. Clouden is all MSU had and we let her beat us. We were pretty obviously the more talented team so a loss like that stings.

The team is now 12-1 with 5 really nice wins over Creighton, Wake, Minn., Drake, and San Diego. This will be a 22 win team and of the top 4, Iowa looks very beatable. My biggest issue is the 5 player rotation up front. It is very difficult on all of them in the serious games like today. Izzy and Bella are better than last year, only thing changing is minutes (Izzy was not good today, it happens).  Alexis' numbers will compile faster than Bella's because most of the time Bella is with Izzy, who gets the primary scoring position on the block. Alexis is often with Kendall and/or Anni, who both prefer being the 2nd big down who gets the high post so Alexis gets the block where she is great. She needs more minutes, but so do the others. Wish Coley was on perimeter and these 80 mins. were getting split 4 ways instead of 5.

Are starting posts had more 3pt. misses than boards. Q: why are posts hanging out at 3pt. line and not on the blocks? Q2: if posts aren't willing to play the post, why aren't they riding the bench?

Which could be another way of saying that IF our three-point shooting is 'ON' we easily run away with it, rather than being Behind all game.  Seems like we've got to devise better alternatives to complement our 3 point offense rather than having to double-down to get back into games when it isn't working.

As for refs calling fouls, in my 40 plus years of following WBB I have never seen a player "flop" and get away with it as much as Nia Clouden.  She got fouled a lot but numerous times there was basically no foul but there she was flying through the air like she was hit by by a linebacker.  One of the worst was when Allison Weidner was guarding her as she drove to the basket along the baseline.  The replay showed no contact but there was Clouden shooting 2 free throws.

All in all that's not what lost us the game as that happens on the road.  Many other deficiencies as aptly pointed out in many previous posts should get the attention of our team.

Refs sucked as usual.  What impresses me, our ladies shrug it off and get back to work.  No demonstrative moaning and groaning.  The game didn't go our way, but they are still a classy bunch, staff and players.

Agree with you on the MSU coach.  Not likable.

Love reading the comments as always esp. as I did not get a chance to watch the game.  Only caught on radio the majority of the 4th quarter.  General assessment of the season so far is we have done great to be where we're at right now (obviously) regardless of what any would think of the non con schedule.  Plus we started out the B1G season w/ 2 road games against good programs and got a split.  Perhaps coming off of a break and then playing on the road was a bit challenging?  Anyway, if they can learn from this game or be reminded of the rigors of playing B1G basketball they will benefit.  Nothing astute here.  Happy New Year one and all, and as always GBR!!!

Poor shooting is part of the blame for the loss to include 10 missed lay ups, 4 each for Borne ans Markowski.  Rebounding was lacking with Bourne only one and Cravens only 2 while Haiby had 7 and Shelley 9.  Williams did a poor job of coaching with at least two timeouts left at game end  and lacking in adjustmens to slow down Clouden who had 32 points (15 of  17 on free throws).  Likely a box and one on her would have helped slow her down.

Don't shoot well (from every level), only play defense on every other possession, exert zero effort on rebounding and generally look like you're running in mud most of the game - probably going to lose.  This was a bad loss, but probably the worst they've played all year - hopefully this was a low point as far as effort goes.  Still 12-1 (1-1).  Learn from this crapfest and obviously a very good season is still out there for them.

I did not get to watch this game until the weekend. I agree at times is was 5 vs. 8 and they did not make calls against MSU  when it was a clear foul, travel, etc. That said we just played bad on both ends of the court. I did not get to listen to Matt and Jeff so if illness was a factor then it explains a lot. If not then really bad play by quite a few players. IMHO Bourne worst performance as a Husker. Also agree Markowski and Weidner and the other freshman brought energy and we did not give them enough time in this game. So really a little both players and coaching in this game. Watched the Mich. and OSU game and we will have our hands full and had better bring our "A" game on Tuesday.
