Moos is Out?

I was reading cyclonefanatic.com this morning and they were saying it was an early season MTE like in the Caribbean or something.  Suffice it to say Hoiberg would probably not be on board with bringing Pollard in as our AD, but the point is moot anyway because Jamie Pollard has been on the record as saying a lot of not so kind stuff about Nebraska and Lincoln in general.  He's not going anywhere and certainly not to Lincoln.

Also, as an aside, it's startling just how much discussion there is on that board about all things Huskers and the amount of just absolute, vile hate they have for us.  So weird.  I've always kind of had a soft spot for ISU and rooted for them in general when not playing against us, but it's clear the feelings are NOT mutual in that fan base.  Oh well, I suppose if I had to live in that state I'd develop a bad attitude too.

Pollard, 56, said it was a “huge compliment” to be mentioned in Nebraska circles as a desirable candidate, but he also alluded to the two programs' recent trajectories.

Seventeen years ago, people “didn't look at our two programs as being comparable,” he said. “I would argue right now that our program is ahead of their program.”

I agree with him for Football but overall in all sports, I would disagree.

I was talking to someone about Moos leaving suddenly like this and he said Bill was in short timer mode.  Didn't work too hard anymore.  It was decided that the university didn't want to pay a person in retirement mode another fiscal year which is why the June 30th date.  Fiscal starts July 1.

If you go by total revenue for the athletic department in 2019 (I figure the best way to compare is prepandemic) Iowa St had $95 million in revenue and we had $136 million.

Not sure I'd base the programs on revenue only.  If you look at the Football program alone, Iowa State is easily ahead of Nebraska but if you look at all men's and women's sports entirely, then NU is in better shape.  Iowa State football is national relevant right now and NU Football hasn't been relevant for almost 20 years.

No disagreement here. Thats why I used total revenue. Although I suspect our football program brings in more revenue than thiers too 😃

Are they though? Thier last 20 years. They had a good year last year.

Fair enough but they are in position to have another good year (at least on paper) and if the playoffs was 12 teams last year like they are proposing, they probably would have been in the playoffs.  They are certainly a ways off from competing for National Championships but certainly capable to compete for conference championships right now.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought all the ISU hype this year centered on them being good-not-great last year and returning nearly the most experience in D1 this year (basically just losing their sack specialist on the D line).  Every year there is a media darling that fits this description.  Sometimes they do indeed pan out, other times not.  Regardless, that media darling is almost always a flash in the pan rather than a team with staying power.  Fast forward a year to 2022 and I think you see ISU regress back to what we are used to seeing out of them.

My thoughts as well. Is their program in better shape than ours this very moment? Yes.

There might be different interpretations on what this means, but are they nationally relevant? I wouldn't say so, personally.

Boise State found their way into a few years of national relevance. Coastal Carolina was a "media darling", but not nationally relevant. Iowa State is somewhere between those two right now.

Have we paid any other ADs to leave besides Steve Pederson or Shawn Eichorst?

Devaney got nudged out.  He was AD in name only for quite a few years, the associate AD (Osborne) had to handle most of the day to day stuff.  Once Tom only had to do three jobs (head coach, offensive coordinator, associate AD) instead of five (head coach, offensive coordinator, quarterback coach, associate AD and de facto acting AD) it's not a coincidence that he started winning national championships.

I don't think TO was told that Harvey was out hiring his replacement when Eichorst was brought in; from how it sounds it was a surprise to him.

It does sound like he was coasting, but why would you pay him 3 mil to go away for not putting in effort? Are there not clauses in contacts at this level for actual performance?

You have to consider the optics on display for AD candidates.  Hard to prove he was in short timer mode, and Moos had more successes than struggles here.

What exactly are Moos' successes?

Not throwing shade. My opinion is just that his projects are longer term and that "success" really hasn't shed light yet.
