Lakes gets free year.

For sure. If anything, he proved to me he can shoot at this level. Not sure he can do anything else in the B1G, but he can shoot. I think his experience this year and an additional year of training here will help him. He should be more comfortable next year, too. If your expectation is that he's a role player, he'll do just fine.

Last year it seemed odd that Lakes, a guy who shoots 3s, wasn't firing up 3s.  Also seemed maybe a little odd that he decided to come back after looking like his play level wouldn't be good enough this year. Turns out he had a torn labrum the entire season and as you can imagine his shoulder randomly popping out of place took a toll on his confidence.

Here are excerpts from the article:

Before the surgery, Lakes never knew how his shoulder might feel on any given day. Didn't know when it might pop out, or stay in place. . . .

Lakes started his Husker career by hitting four of his first five three-pointers, and six of his first 12. He finished the season by missing 18 of his final 24 attempts from long range.  . . .

"It just never felt the same; never felt sturdy," Lakes said. . . .

Lakes was forced into a six-month rehab following his surgery — a process so grueling Lakes wasn't even cleared for full contact workouts until last week.

Wow.  Makes a lot of sense why he came back now.  I thought it was just the Nebrasketball thing that made his shooting tank.  Glad to see him get that fixed.

Actually, it was the Nebrasketball thing that made his shooting tank.  If I told you that a certain D1 team would get a transfer from a proven elite 3pt shooter, and that that player would develop a debilitating injury to his shooting shoulder upon transfer...what are the odds that team is not named Nebraska?

Whoa whoa whoa. Hold your horses there friend. This story hasn't ended yet. Had last year been his final year you'd be correct.

To add to your senario... but miraculously the player was given an extra year due to a once in a lifetime pandemic. This allowed him to rehab his shoulder and become the off the bench 3pt specialist that fans had always opined "why does the other team always have this unheard of player that comes in and just lights us up and we can't". He went on to shoot above 40% on 3's for the year and helped his team to thier 1st NCAA tournament victory.

Question...who will lose minutes if Lakes finds playing time?  There are 200 minutes a game to be distributed to this team.  Playing time will be earned and may be hard to come by.

We don’t even know who is going to get the minutes yet, much less who he’d be taking them from. That will all sort itself out soon!

He's a stretch four or a makeshift five for us?  Is he the 3rd string four behind Lat and WIlhelm? Seems like it'd be remarkable if he was in the rotation without injuries or foul trouble.

And that may be the reason he is there.  But if we really are 3 deep there with a guy who is a known shooter…I’m not complaining.  :)
