Florida A&M thoughts.

Looks like Florida A&M relies heavily on their starters.   Their bench has not produced much.  Randolf & Reaves are their main 2 scorers and best players.  Randolf is their best player.  He is a inside and mid range guy.   He leads them in points&rebounding&steals and is tied for most assists.  He is 6-4 wing.   Reaves is their best 3 pt shooter and is a guard and is tied for most assists.  Decent foul shooter.  He is 6-2.   Speer is the other starting guard that will put up 3's.   He has a poor 3pt% right now.    Brown is a guy off the bench that will shoot an occasional 3 but hasn't hit much.   Jones is their center at 6-9 200lbs.   He scores low double figures.   Lat should match up fairly well with him.  Their other starter Moragne guy scores 9 a game and does a little of everything, probably a glue guy.

I think our small lineup matches up well with these guys.    I'd start Thor against Randolf.

Well, they sure ain't deep. And, as a team, they don't shoot the ball well from the perimeter if 2 games are any indication. The one guy they have who does take 3s is pretty good at them, hitting over 46% in 2 games. But only 3 players on the team have even attempted a trey and one of them is 1-4 and the other is 1-12.

The one guy who is 1-12 is a freshman so I don't know whether this is just freshman jitters like Glynn Watson had, or whether he's just a really bad shooter. We'll probably find out because we're usually the coming-out party for anyone who suddenly finds their shooting touch.

The Randolf guy is intriguing. He's a 6'4 guard, listed at 170#, who is their leading rebounder at 7.5/game. 🤔

He basically never takes three pointers. And he's a bad free-throw shooter as well. Being their leading rebounder (and tied for leading scorer), he must get inside pretty regularly and that's probably how he scores his points. Seems like a good defensive assignment for Trey McGowens.

They have gone about 7 players deep. Their backup PG hasn't scored and is 0-3 from the field in 15 minutes/game. So, their scoring primarily comes from 3 starters averaging double-figures and two others who are 8 and 9 ppg. Minimal bench scoring. Extremely minimal.

Yet, they only lost to Georgia by 10, and Gulf Coast by 9.

I'd say smother their two scorers and dare anyone else to shoot.

FAM is 1-73 against power conference teams over the past 2 decades, but because of the "1", Coach Hoiberg will be looking to gain some revenge for his alma mater.

By the way, FAM lost to South Dakota by 3 last season and lost to Washington St by 14 last season (same Wazzu team we won against last season by 11).

Part of the reason they aren't deep is injuries, especially at center.

The JUCO center they added, Wylie Howard, is out for the year.

They also are without the services of JUCO shooter Jai Clark.  Both are JUCO guys so who knows how they translate.

Their biggest current loss, literally is their Hatian version of Andre Almeida, 6'8" 300lb Evins Desir.

Started last year and shot 55% in the paint.

They run a screen and motion offense but their 3pt shooting is pretty suspect.

As long as we pack the paint we'll be good and we should score plenty in transition/steals in this one.
