Wow, I guess it didn't occur to me that our best win before yesterday was at home against ND State (154).

What a weird year, Penn State is 39 in NET just because the BIG is loaded. They have home wins against Wisconsin, Rutgers and Maryland and that's about it. You can be an average team and win half your conference home games, so it's not like they've really proved anything. That's one of things that has been so frustrating this year: OK, we're not great but we still  should have been able to win 4-5 conference games.

Penn State beat Va Tech 75-55 in Blacksburg, and Va Tech is at 34 in the NET

You can be an above average team, going 13-5 in conference play and 22 wins on the season, then being told you really haven't proved anything because "the conference is down this year."

Another win, so another KenPom update was in order I thought.  It'll be a tall order, but if we can manage a win against Rutgers, we may see double digits by the end of the season.  Other than us jumping 10 spots there hasn't be much if any change except Georgia Tech.  They're really climbing the ranks after dropping as low as 90 to start off the season.

Here is today's KenPom update:

Another day, another quad 1 win for our Huskers.  It's nice to see us back in the two digit club again.  Hopefully we can stay there for good now.  Not much has changed since last update except for Rutgers dropping 10 spots.

Nevada still haunts me to this day.

that was the preview of things to come, though, and most of us knew what kind of a year we were in for after that.

still, I'm loving this finish. it's what this program desperately needed (and us fans, too). That sliver of light just keeps getting just a bit bigger with each week. And if we can see it, so can the players. It probably will come down to roster turnover at seasons end as to whether or not we're actually at a program corner right now or just humping more pyrite.

I suppose we come from two different perspectives, but also seems we've come to terms on the season in very similar ways.

I get things wrong a lot, so it's nice to see the season (and our opponents) shaking up the way it has. You can see via the first HHCC prediction that I was estimating this team would get 8 wins (technically 7-8 since we shifted to a percentage, but my true target was 8). And I was very vocal about Nevada and Georgia Tech when those opponents were coming up on our schedule. Nevada was just not a quality team and I mentioned that Georgia Tech was a tournament/bubble team at the least. So I wasn't too upset about a loss to Georgia Tech that many thought was a terrible loss.

That said, I overestimated how bad we could get in this season and underestimated the progress we were able to make in the latter half of the season. At the start of the season, my only expectation was "improvement" (which included things like shooting %, free throws, gelling as a team). We were awful in all those categories and it really felt like a waste of a chance to make real progress with a marquee incoming class. But that changed for me after the COVID break. We lost many games, but we were in many of those games. Now we're starting to find our stride and "improvement" is actually looking like an actuality going into next season. Makes me very excited for where we could go into 2021-2022.

Nevada loss counts as a Quad 3 loss.

Yeah I was on the fence about calling a top 100 KP a bad loss, but I won't die on that hill.

I wonder if we'll go up in KP regardless of a win tonight.  I think our final standings there will be a pretty good benchmark of how much the team has improved since last year, which is crazy to say.
