OT: Live Sports Are Back!

Recommended Posts

The first major professional sports league to start back up after the coronavirus outbreak is the KBO. Not familiar with the Korean Baseball Organization? If you're a fan of baseball, want to see a faster game than MLB and enjoy crazy batflips, then this is the league for you. I'm just really glad KBO and ESPN could set up this partnership to air 6 games a week. I hope this lasts beyond the COVID outbreak.

I'd imagine the next league to restart would be Bundesliga in Germany.

Even if you're not a fan of either of those leagues, these are positive signs of progress in the sporting world.

We’re at home with our first kiddo, born 4/4/2020, and decided today to pick a KBO team to follow while we parental leave/work from home for the foreseeable future. Settled on the NC Dinos because, awesome mascot, and they hit the most home runs last year and seemed like it would be exciting to watch them. They hit three homers and won today!

I, too, am a Dinos fan. Great opening day win.

It looks like the Premier Lacrosse League is opening up in the North American sports front as well:

The best part about this is nobody shows up to watch their games anyway* so the social distancing part is already taken care of!

*I know that's not actually true, in some cities they have gotten some pretty decent fan followings and large-ish crowds

Looks like the DFL decided to restart, as the government recently allowed, starting May 15 through June 30:

"NCAA president Mark Emmett does not envision schools being ready to begin competing in college football or other fall sports unless students return to campuses around the country."

"All of the commissioners and every president that I've talked to is in clear agreement: If you don't have students on campus, you don't have student-athletes on campus... That doesn't mean [the school] has to be up and running in the full normal model, but you have to treat the health and well-being of the athletes at least as much as the regular students... If a school doesn't reopen, then they're not going to be playing sports. It's really that simple."

"I suspect that people are going to make decisions sometime in June... Maybe by the Fourth of July."
