Trevor Lakes is N

If Lakes is eligible, then I think that ends the days of Lat and Yvan being on the court simultaneously.  I'd see the addition of Lakes as a way of cutting Yvan's minutes and relegating him to purely being Lat's backup.

When we get to the point that Andre and Walker are eligible, how often will we be running Lat out at center?

Perhaps...but there was also mention of the other.  Please don't make me go out and find the discussion.

There’s no perhaps about it. He was required to sit out a year.

Earlier in this thread someone said that Lakes was “content” with sitting out a year to get stronger, etc. But we knew he was content with it because he made the decision that required it.

Maybe it's just me but it seems like his footwork is a little bit quirky on his shot.  (Not as quirky as Teddy's, mind you, but still...)

Whatever it is, it's consistent and it seems to be effective for him.

It’s a pretty wide stance, but it seems to work.

His stance is wider than most, which probably limits how high he can elevate on the jump. But it also means he has a bit more balance on the catch because of a lower center of gravity. He's so quick getting his shot off, he doesn't need to get great elevation on his jump.

By the way, watching his video, I'm not sure he's very quick. Probably not much slower than Teddy Allen, but still.

One thing's for sure, though: if you're playing against him, you sure as hell better pick him up in transition. He's deadly on the catch-and-shoot as the trailer.

He also scores in a lot more ways than just shooting from the perimeter. So, if you think he's a one-trick pony, he's going to burn you with a back cut.

Disclaimer: Don't anyone interpret anything I'm saying about this guy as tantamount to some claim that we'll win every game with him in the lineup like he's the Ark of the Covenant or something. I get so irritated when people try to say that I've made bolder claims about things than I actually made. I will say I think we'd have beaten Nevada if he'd been playing then. So, how's that?

If he does play this year and doesn't do well there is our one scholarship that needs to open up, correct?

Doubt it will be him.   There is a pretty obvious one for that distinction.   As in "knock on....".

I would hope regularly.  Hoiberg is establishing a brand of 5 Out basketball.  We need a bruiser or two for defensive reasons during B1G play, but it seems pretty clear that HCFH wants to put as many shooters and scorers on the floor as possible.

Here’s what I like about Trevor. Go to 21:20 of the video and watch his shot. He doesn’t dip the ball at all. Most college players dip it all the way down to their waist to start their set shot motion. He doesn’t even bring it below his shoulders. That is elite. That’s EXTREMELY difficult to do when the bullets are flying and do it well. Klay Thompson is literally the only college player I can remember who was able to do that consistently. Duncan Robinson does it now, but he didn’t at Michigan. Trevor can absolutely get his shot off at this level. Of course, there’s more to basketball than just getting shots off. He could very well be a liability defensively, I don’t know.

So he would fit in defensively with what we were doing vs Creighton. :)

I would guess a guy who has been in the system for 3 years and not broke the rotation not a kid who is a Freshman that is behind 3 or 4 guys.  Hell I could be wrong, have been before, just ask the wife.

Huge news if this happens.  You don’t need to be quick to play the 4 in the B1G.  You need weight.  My second favorite thing about Lakes after his shooting is he’s a legitimate 230lbs.  So he’s really about Yvan’s size.  He could make a much more interesting stretch 5, and should be a fairly prototypical Hoiberg 4.

Banton

Allen

McGowans

Lat

Lakes

could be a very interesting lineup.  No one can guard Banton, Allen, or TMac one on one without help.  You can’t sag off of Lat or Lakes.

Very interesting.

I’d have Thor off the bench at the 4 and Andre or Yvan off the bench at the 5 with this lineup with a smattering of Kobe/Shamiel wherever they could be a problem.

Nebraska clocked him in at 215#. We want him to be quicker so I wonder if we had him slim down.

During today's presser with Hoiberg and Lat it sounded like Lat was playing out of position so I think once we get everyone back you'll see one of Walker/Andre/Yvan on the court most if not all the time

If they’re making Lat play out of position instead of giving more minutes to Yvan, that tells me Yvan is third in that pecking order and they don’t want to have to roll with him that much.

Yes and no...it's not like they could or would play Yvan for 40 minutes just because he's the only available center. While we might think or hope that Andre and Walker will play better than Yvan that's certainly no guarantee.
