It seemed like a punch to the gut when Doc was canned, and it surely gutted Doc based on his own reaction.

Who even shows up to their press conference of their own firing?

Definitely a class act and that raw emotion still sits with me as a guy who truly wanted us to get that NCAA win for the fans and the community. Never seen anything like that before.

SJSU winning conference basketball seasons:

  • 1993-94
  • 1986-87
  • 1984-85
  • 1980-81
  • 1979-80
  • 1976-77
  • 1968-69
  • 1967-68
  • 1964-65
  • 1955-56
  • 1954-55

That's it since the Spartans joined the Division I ranks in 1952. That's 68 seasons, 11 winning conference records, zero conference records in the past 27 years.

Good luck, coach Miles.

Don't do us, I feel like we might be almost as bad.

People don't seem to understand just how unremarkably mediocre Nebrasketball has been since forever.  Never really great, but then again, never really horrible either.  Just always hovering somewhere right above the .500 mark.

Fred has presided over a couple of the worst seasons ever in the Cip to Hoiberg eras.  Hopefully he can bring us some of our best seasons ever as well.

Winning seasons in the last decade:

2018-2019

2017-2018

2013-2014

Well that's depressing. I'm going to go somewhere and cry now.

So the other day I noticed that Coach Miles tweeted out something about a new Athletic Director at SJSU:

Kinda sucks, he won't be working for the person that hired him (again).  Can't catch a break sometimes.

Then I looked a little deeper into the situation and why he had a new AD, and wow...

If we haven't seen our last losing season around here for awhile we're in a LOT more trouble than any of us envisioned. We fired a guy after he wins 19 & replace him with a guy that loses back-to-back 20. The reasons for that have already been debated & discussed ad nauseum, but it's still stark & jarring. The talent Fred's assembling is off the charts, now it's time to make that 13 to 4 type jump in the B1G standings, soon...!

Notice how Moe Iba isn’t on that list.

When enough time has passed, I’ll spills the beans on everything I know about the end of the Miles era.

He needed to go.

I have a close mutual friend with Tim (who was actually at his 400th win in San Jose last week) I’ve never heard anything salacious/inappropriate RE: Miles. Only that Moos wanted to bring in his “own guy” regardless of what kind of record Tim put up…

I have no idea how much it would have changed had Moos gone all in on him but there was no future with the way he was recruiting.

I mean, Jervay Green was his prized recruit. He’s what…playing NAIA ball now? Brady Heiman can’t even get time at S Dakota. We were not recruiting a Big Ten roster.

Odd how you went to salacious/inappropriate right away…. 🤔

Why else would you get rid of a popular Coach who’d just come off 22 & 19 win seasons? I certainly don’t claim to have any inside info either way, I just think he was treated in a shabby fashion at the end…

One thing Tim Miles never did was lose season opening games against KenPom 200+ teams (Hoiberg has done that 2 out of 3 years...one of those years assembling a roster of the highest-ranked recruits we've seen around here in at least 20 years).

In fact, during his tenure Coach Miles averaged more Big Ten conference wins (7.4) each year than Hoiberg has against the full schedule (7)

But sure...it's recruiting that was the problem.
