Since we are still talking about history and have time to waste, I will recommend the book on CCNY's 1950 team which won both the NIT and NCAA tourneys. That year they were both played at Madison Square Garden and the twelve team NIT was by far the most prestigious. The CCNY Beavers were only invited to the later NCAA tourney because they had surprisingly won the NIT and were thus declared champions of the Northeast region. There were eight regions in the US, and only the best team in each region was invited to the NCAA. Incidentally CCNY beat the team AP rated as #1 at the end of the year in the finale of both tournaments in games which were decided in the last seconds. And that team was....(drum roll)….the Bradley Braves. And ,again, I must say how times have changed.

Thought this was interesting.  Besides Indiana and with Auburn snuck in there, everyone is really clustered in the B1G:

Even more interesting is that with the exception of the NU's the clusters all start on the 9's.  9, 19, 29, 39.

You've gotta' admire this team.

They are short-handed but keep on fighting.

They get beat up and keep on battling.

They deal with one adversity . . . and another follows.

And they are still within a few breaks of pulling out multiple wins against high-level competition . . . and on the road to boot.

There is more to be admired here than you'll see on the vast majority of teams.

Winning is fun . . . but this is impressive.

4/7 of our wins are technically "upsets" where the higher KenPom team won!  When you combine that with Jayschool's post below, we are looking pretty decent TBH.

With Purdue's rise back to the top 30, we again have our two Quad 1 victories, so you could argue that we're better than we were two years ago when we finished 22-11.

Minnesota blew a 17 point lead last night vs Maryland & all the talk in the Twin Cities is they’re done & Ricky’s GONE...

it's interesting because just about one month ago they beat (then KenPom #10) Ohio State on the road which vaulted the Gophs up to #30 in KenPom.  They were pretty solidly in the field at that time and looking pretty good for a shot at top 4 in the Big Ten.

Since then they've lost 6 of the 8 games they've played and have tumbled all the way to...#31 in KenPom.

But yeah, it does appear that they are going to struggle at this point to even be NIT eligible.

It'll be weird playing against first year Gopher head coach Tim Miles next year...

I thought this exact same thing today.  Are you my subconscious?

I mean, they could do a LOT worse, and he's a life long Gopher fan.  It's a match made in heaven really.

But they might opt for Craig Smith instead, and really that wouldn't be a bad option for them.
